This position offers a unique opportunity to influence the future of Emergency Medicine across the greater St. Louis area through the SLU School of Medicine and the SSM Health network, advancing both academic and clinical missions. The Department includes state-of-the-art medical education, compassionate patient care, and a growing research enterprise. With the integration of the School’s physician practice organization (SLUCare) into SSM Health, Emergency Medicine, formerly a division, is poised for growth as a department across each of its mission areas of patient care, education, and research. The inaugural Chair of the Department of Emergency Medicine reports to the Dean of the School of Medicine for the Department’s academic mission of education and research and to the Vice Dean for Clinical Affairs for its patient care mission. **Key Responsibilities** The Chair of Adult Emergency Medicine is responsible for the management of the Department functions, including education, research, and clinical services. + Provide visionary leadership to the Department of Emergency Medicine, fostering a culture of excellence in clinical care, education, and research. + Cultivate a collaborative working environment between EM faculty, emergency department (ED) staff, hospital administration, and interdisciplinary stakeholders from other departments. + Manage and oversee the Department, including budgetary adherence and effective, sustainable utilization and stewardship of financial resources. + Provide career support infrastructure and mentoring for medical students and post-graduate trainees with a focus on performance on national examinations and facilitating the transition to residency positions or first-job opportunities. + Drive initiatives in clinical and translational research. **Chair Qualifications** Saint Louis University and SSM Health seek a candidate with a commitment to academic excellence, the highest level of personal integrity and ethical standards, and an established reputation for compassion, inclusion, fairness, and objectivity. The clinical duties associated with this position will be performed as a member of the SSM Health SLUCare Physician Group. The Chair will be wholly employed by SSM Health.
