Sr. Test Engineer

Johnson Service Group is looking for a Sr. Test Engineer for our client in the San Jose area. The Senior Test Engineer is responsible for the development, qualification, implementation, and support of test processes for PCBA and mechanical assemblies in a contract manufacturing environment
Responsibilities: Qualify and support test processes including acceptance testing, test coverage, and equipment validation. Interface with vendors, customers, and global engineering teams on all test-related matters. Direct or support failure analysis and diagnostics for products, software, and test equipment. Engage with customers’ engineering teams to understand failure mechanisms and execute technical directives. Create and maintain documentation, test reports, and technical summaries for internal and external use. Provide hands-on or supervisory support for test activities including test station setup and assembly testing. Drive quality and continuous improvement initiatives within test processes and documentation (e.g., ISO compliance, test optimization). Address test-related customer design issues in collaboration with engineering teams. Lead or support root cause analysis for product and process failures. Perform independently with minimal supervision while upholding quality standards. Calculate test time and define NRE (non-recurring engineering) requirements for projects. Contribute to lean manufacturing initiatives and preventive action programs. Perform additional duties and projects as assigned. Qualifications: Bachelor’s degree in Engineering or related field; equivalent experience may be considered. 7+ years of test engineering experience in a contract manufacturing environment, especially in PCBA and mechanical assemblies. Proficient in Linux OS, Python scripting, and LabView TestStand (strong plus). Working knowledge of boundary scan tools and programming (e.g., Goepel, JTAG, Asset, Corelis). Ability to develop or convert test procedures based on customer documentation or training. Skilled in using oscilloscopes, precision measuring tools, and diagnostic equipment. Strong analytical, decision-making, and root cause analysis skills. Proficient in reading and interpreting schematics, technical drawings, and engineering documents. Excellent written and verbal communication skills; able to interact effectively across all levels of the organization. Demonstrated experience in ISO quality systems, documentation control, and maintaining test records. Strong organizational skills; detail-oriented and capable of managing multiple tasks simultaneously. Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Access); CAD software knowledge a plus. Ability to lead training sessions for test technicians and operators. Capable of maintaining professional relationships with internal teams, clients, and external vendors. Availability to work flexible hours as required by the role.
