Project Kuiper is an initiative to increase global broadband access through a constellation of 3,236 satellites in low Earth orbit (LEO). Its mission is to bring fast, affordable broadband to unserved and underserved communities around the world. Project Kuiper will help close the digital divide by delivering fast, affordable broadband to a wide range of customers, including consumers, businesses, government agencies, and other organizations operating in places without reliable connectivity.
Export Control Requirement: Due to applicable export control laws and regulations, candidates must be a U.S. citizen or national, U.S. permanent resident (i.e., current Green Card holder), or lawfully admitted into the U.S. as a refugee or granted asylum.
We are looking for an experienced Sr. Test Development Engineer to design and implement test infrastructure for mechanical satellite systems that support the development and testing of satellite flight hardware, holding the gate to flight readiness. This is a fast-paced, intellectually challenging opportunity to work with thought leaders in multiple technology areas. You’ll have relentlessly high standards for yourself and everyone you work with, and you’ll be constantly looking for ways to improve your product’s performance, quality, and reliability.
Key job responsibilities
- Design, analyze, develop, and implement test equipment and infrastructure used in satellite flight hardware development and qualification.
- Author, refine and implement validation, verification, acceptance and qualification test procedures.
- Develop mechatronics focused test automation and data acquisition.
- Develop post-processing tools to decompose test data into desired metrics.
- Lead and participate in design reviews, and risk assessments, to contribute to the continuous improvement of satellite hardware performance and reliability.
- Work concurrently with the design engineers to provide design for testability (DFT) feedback throughout the design process
- Collaborate closely with cross-functional teams, including design, manufacturing, systems, reliability, and quality engineers, to gather information, share findings, and develop solutions.
A day in the life
As a Project Kuiper Sr. Test Development Engineer, you will own the design and implementation of automated test equipment used to validate satellite hardware designs from initial prototypes, though functional testing, and into pilot production. You will work with design and manufacturing teams to specify test equipment requirements, develop test plans, and execute test campaigns to support development and production test initiatives. The ideal candidate is self-motivated and comfortable operating in a fast-paced development environment.
About the team
This team is organized within the satellite mechanical design team to accelerate the design iteration process and ensure on-time delivery of the most stable and successful product possible. The tasks and daily focus change rapidly, and you will often take on new and exciting responsibilities as required to ensure project success. Expect to be deployed to complex problems and novel technical challenges that push you to develop new skills. You’ll be constantly looking for ways to improve your product’s performance, quality and cost.
