Sr. Tax Associate, State and Local Tax

We are seeking a highly motivated and detail-oriented State and Local Tax (SALT) specialist with approximately four years of dedicated experience to join our dynamic tax team. The successful candidate will be responsible for preparing a wide range of state and local income tax returns, conducting tax research, and assisting with state and local income tax audits and other compliance matters for multiple jurisdictions. Key Responsibilities:

Prepare and timely file state income and franchise tax returns, including multi-state consolidated and combined returns.  Prepare and file state and local estimated tax payments.  Gather and analyze financial data, ensuring proper apportionment and allocation of income across various jurisdictions. Prepare state tax provision in accordance with ASC-740. Research complex state and local tax issues, including nexus determinations, sourcing rules, and taxability of various transactions.  This includes staying current with changes in state and local tax laws, regulations, and court decisions, and preparing technical memorandums and documentation to support tax positions. Assist in responding to state and local tax notices and information requests. Identify tax planning opportunities and potential tax exposures.  Drive development and implementation of best practices for data collection, and compliance and reporting processes. Collaborate with internal teams (e.g., accounting, finance, legal) to ensure accurate and complete tax information.  Communicate effectively with auditors and internal stakeholders.  Support management and the indirect tax team with various ad-hoc projects as needed.

Qualifications:

Bachelor's degree in Accounting and a minimum of 4 years of progressive, hands-on experience in State and Local Tax preparation and compliance, either in public accounting or a large corporate tax department. Strong understanding of state income/franchise tax concepts, including apportionment, allocation, and consolidated/combined filing methodologies. Proficiency with tax preparation software (e.g., OneSource) and Microsoft Excel (e.g., VLOOKUP, pivot tables). Excellent research skills, with experience using tax research platforms (e.g., RIA Checkpoint, BNA, Wolters Kluwer). Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities with keen attention to detail.  Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to explain complex tax concepts clearly. Ability to manage multiple priorities and meet deadlines in a fast-paced environment.

You have an advantage if you have:

A CPA license. A Master's degree in Taxation (MST). Experience with sales and use tax, property tax, and other state and local taxes.

Salary Range: $80,000 - $95,000

In accordance with Colorado’s Equal Pay for Equal Work Act (SB 19-085) the approximate compensation range for this role in Colorado is listed above. Final compensation for this role will be determined by various factors, such as knowledge, skills, and abilities.
