Sr. Tax Accountant - Income Tax (Remote)
Job Description

The Tax Accountant Senior will be primarily responsible for the preparation of Nordstrom’s quarterly tax provision and supporting our annual income tax compliance.  The ideal candidate will have strong organization and communication skills, attention to detail and the ability to deliver results.  We are looking for someone with a desire and ability to both collaborate and work independently to support department projects and goals, as well as company-wide initiatives. In addition, this position relies heavily on technology supporting the income tax function.  This role will report directly to the Director, Income Tax.

A day in the life…

Prepare quarterly income tax provision

Prepare calculations supporting US Federal and State income tax filings and partner with external outsource provider

Prepare annual informational filings 

Prepare calculations supporting income tax depreciation

Compile information and prepare responses to federal, international, and state tax audit requests

Respond to external and internal inquiries regarding Nordstrom’s income tax filing positions

Prepare written materials and analysis describing and supporting tax positions, ensuring sufficient documentation exists for tax positions and reflects latest audit results and controversy trends

Engage in identifying and maintaining process improvements and technology supporting the income tax function

Perform tax technical research and communicate results and potential action items

Support broader tax team projects, as needed

Actively engage with and develop relationships with a broader group of tax and non-tax personnel within the company

You own this if you have…                                       

4+ years of relevant income tax experience in a multi-state environment.

BA/BS in Accounting or comparable degree required.

MST and/or CPA preferred.

Corporate income tax accounting experience required. Experience in the retail industry preferred

Experience working with tax authorities and working knowledge of the audit defense process

Experience with ASC 740 and application to different fact patterns a plus

Experience utilizing tax research sites, accounting systems and tools. Includes but is not limited to Oracle, OneSource, and CCH.

Experience with automation and robotics tools such as Alteryx, UI Path and Tableau a plus

Sound technical research skills and ability to evaluate and communicate the implications of technical issues in verbal and written form

Advanced Microsoft Office skills, particularly Excel, required

A desire to perform beyond what is familiar, seek out new experiences, and be flexible and curious with an ability to apply on the job learning to new situations

Analytical and detail oriented with outstanding organizational skills

Ability to plan, organize, and complete work timely with minimal supervision

Ability to creatively collaborate and find solutions to tax and business issues

Positive and enthusiastic with exceptional interpersonal skills and ability to work with a wide variety of internal and external stakeholders

Pay Range Details

The pay range(s) below has been provided in compliance with state specific laws. Pay ranges may be different for other locations. 
Pay offers are dependent on the location, as well as job-related knowledge, skills, and experience.

California: $76,500 - $158,500 Annually, Colorado: $76,500 - $126,500 Annually, Connecticut: $76,500 - $145,500 Annually, District of Columbia: $87,500 - $145,500 Annually, Hawaii: $76,500 - $126,500 Annually, Illinois: $76,500 - $126,500 Annually, Maryland: $76,500 - $145,500 Annually, Massachusetts: $76,500 - $145,500 Annually, Minnesota: $76,500 - $126,500 Annually, Nevada: $76,500 - $126,500 Annually, New York: $76,500 - $158,500 Annually, Rhode Island: $76,500 - $126,500 Annually, Washington: $77,969 - $145,500 Annually
