Sr. Systems Modeling Engineer, HV Battery

We are currently seeking a HV Systems Modeling Engineer. This position requires a talented engineer with passion and experience to help develop state-of-the-art battery models and control strategies. The ideal candidate will exhibit a can-do attitude and approach their work with vigor and determination. Candidates will be expected to demonstrate excellence in their respective fields, to possess the ability to learn quickly and to strive for perfection within a fast-paced environment. 
 
Role: 

Be part of a passionate and highly driven team of multi-disciplinary engineers  Develop system models and optimization tools to assess battery and power electronics electrical and thermal performance under different usage scenarios  Develop and expand existing simulation tools to drive control strategy development for charging and high-performance driving scenarios.  Couple the effects of different systems required for charging, including HVAC, AUX loads and charging infrastructure  Collaborate cross functionally to determine best strategies to achieve accurate and reliable SOX estimations, high power discharge/charge performance, maximum efficiency and thermal capability.  Work closely with the testing team to develop and document experiments to validate electrical and thermal system models  Support in the derivation of HV system requirements, attributes and duty cycles  Support in the development of performance verification plans  Utilize fleet data analysis tools to understand real-world usage scenarios to drive continuous improvements  

 

Qualifications: 

Fundamental understanding of physics governing HV battery systems  Knowledge of modeling techniques used to simulate lithium-ion cells, battery packs, and thermal systems  2-5 years of experience using modeling and simulation tools like MATLAB, Simulink, Python and other specialized tools  Experience in developing plant models used for battery control algorithms simulation and verification  Understanding of algorithm design, optimization, and verification  Experience in scripting simulation workflows   Capability of processing and documenting results in a concise and elegant fashion to successfully communicate information to the team and other departments  Ownership mindset, enthusiasm, and a collaborative spirit 

 
 

Preferred:  

Proficiency in using other data tools such as Grafana, Tableau, etc.  Experience with HIL (Hardware in the Loop) and SIL (Software in the loop) testing  Experience with developing control algorithms applied in battery management system  In-depth understanding of battery technology and simulation techniques  Good mathematical knowledge and experience in statistical analysis, optimization  Knowledge of HVAC systems and how to model them  Strong understanding of the interactions between the battery system and other vehicle subsystems   Good knowledge of vehicle dynamics  Experience with revision control tools, such as git/svn 

 

Education Requirements: 

BS (and preferably MS or PhD) in a relevant engineering discipline
