The ATS Team in Hyderabad is looking for a Sr. System Development Manager with the experience to manage their mission-critical engineering support organization and a strong delivery record to execute strategic, cross-functional operations and technology projects. This role will be responsible for building and managing a team that provides critical technical support, infrastructure services, and automated solutions to enable successful delivery across the transportation technology landscape. It offers an exciting opportunity to make a significant impact on Amazon's transportation technology teams. It involves regular communication with senior leadership on large scale solutions, program planning, status, risks and change control. Cross-team coordination, project management, stakeholder management and executive presentation skills are essential.
As the Sr. Manager, you will have technical ownership and will be responsible for software support functions in one of the most demanding departments within Amazon. You will have an established background in managing software support organization and operate as a site leader having strong customer focus, excellent project and stakeholder management skills, great communication skills, and a motivation to achieve results in a fast paced environment. You will collaborate with business teams, program/project management teams, and software development teams to achieve Operational Excellence and scale our business. The role also involves coming up with Think Big initiatives, driving internal development projects and building custom tools to enhance efficiency of our support operations and development/business teams. You will come up with proposals on business/team expansion to achieve large scale wins for the org and Amazon. Your org will be an hybrid one managing software support solutions and program management with a mix of People Managers (System Dev and Support engineering), Technical Program Managers/Program Managers, System Dev and Support engineers. You will operate as a Manager of managers, whose teams of ~8-12 highly talented System Dev and Support engineers responsible for managing operational excellence of partnering development teams and all aspects of mission-critical services. Drive process and service improvements, and improve day-to-day operational efficiency. Investigate and recommend approaches and systems that meet quality, performance and sustainability criteria Create operational run-books for events and services. You'll lead them to create and efficiently use tools and processes to triage, track, and resolve customer issues within a rapidly growing development organization. You’ll be serving as the customer ambassador in software development across Transportation Technology space. Provide Tech guidance to the team around operational excellence solutions, system design, project planning and execution, automations and tools development. Other responsibilities include waste elimination and continuous improvement for the large-scale distributed systems. As a manager of managers, you will be accountable for devising 3YP and yearly goals for your org, performance management of your teams, and ensure customer centric approach in the deliverables. You should be able to clearly articulate, through data, productivity gains achieved.
Key job responsibilities
• Build, Lead and manage the team of managers, engineers, TPMs/PMs, providing technical guidance, mentorship, and career development
• Devise organization OE goals for the broader Transportation organizations and set internal team goals to aid achieve the larger goals.
• Influence and drive consensus across organizational boundaries
• Drive technical strategy and architecture decisions for shared services and infrastructure used across Transportation tech teams
• Partner with development teams to understand their needs and deliver solutions that improve efficiency and reliability
• Establish best practices, standards, and processes for system development and operations
• Drive technical innovations and Oversee the design and implementation of scalable, reliable technical solutions that impact multiple teams
• Drive operational excellence through metrics, monitoring, and continuous improvement
• Collaborate with senior leadership to align technical initiatives with business objectives
• Manage relationships with stakeholders and partner teams
Basic Qualifications
• Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or related field
• 12+ years of experience
• 5+ years of experience managing system development and support teams
• Strong technical background in distributed systems, cloud computing, and service-oriented architecture
• Experience with AWS services and cloud infrastructure
• Track record of delivering large-scale technical projects
• Excellence in technical problem solving and system design
• Data-driven decision making approach and strong focus on customer satisfaction and operational excellence
• Strong communication and interpersonal skills, and stakeholder management across multiple teams
Preferred Qualifications
• Master's degree in Computer Science or related field
• Experience in transportation or logistics technology
• Knowledge of CI/CD practices and Operations principles
• Strong understanding of microservices architecture
• Experience with performance optimization and scaling distributed systems
• Track record of building and managing shared services platforms
• Experience with Agile methodologies and practices
