Job Description:
Our client is seeking an experienced Senior Systems Administrator to
support a large-scale digital transformation initiative with our AFRL
customer at Wright-Patterson AFB. You will help lead the planning and
technical execution of complex IT infrastructure projects—including
deployments as large as small-scale data centers—and will play a pivotal
role in establishing support and helpdesk frameworks. This role will
play a key role in the architecture, management, and security of
enterprise IT infrastructure with a focus on virtualization, automation,
and Linux systems.
This position requires advanced experience with Red Hat technologies,
Nutanix or VMware platforms, and network integration in multitenant
environments. This role requires deep understanding of DoD-specific IT
environments, including the RMF process, cybersecurity standards, and
managing classified IT projects. This role will work directly with
dozens of small research groups, with highly specific needs. This
candidate will work across various teams and with directorate-level
government stakeholders to onboard these groups to a centralized network
environment. Candidates should have a proven record of delivering
high-impact IT projects within classified DoD environments, including
the integration of cross-domain solutions (CDS), Commercial Solutions
for Classified (CSfC), TTC/TTCR, High Speed Guards, and Trusted Gateway
Systems. Experience with Everfox (formerly Forcepoint) products is
highly desirable.

Responsibilities
Duties to be independently executed include but are not limited to:
- Lead and manage full lifecycle of IT projects to ingest
independently working research groups to a modern, centralized
network.
- Administer and maintain virtualized environments primarily on
Nutanix AHV and/or VMware ESXi.
- Design, implement, and support complex infrastructure solutions in
both production and multitenant environments.
- Manage and secure Red Hat Enterprise Linux systems with advanced
tooling such as Satellite, Identity Management (IDM), and Ansible
Automation.
- Perform advanced troubleshooting and performance tuning across
operating systems, virtualization platforms, and networked systems.
- Collaborate with networking teams to ensure seamless integration
between systems and Cisco/Dell-based infrastructure.
- Automate system tasks and administrative processes using advanced
PowerShell and/or Bash scripting.
- Manage enterprise systems monitoring and management platforms,
including SolarWinds, Elastic Stack, and Veeam.
- Support and maintain enterprise storage platforms, with Dell
PowerScale experience considered a strong plus.
- Participate in planning and execution of patching, backup, and
disaster recovery operations.
- Provide input on security posture improvements and assist in audit
or compliance readiness efforts.
- Establish, document, and manage scalable IT support and helpdesk
operations aligned to mission requirements.
- Develop detailed project plans, roadmaps, and resource allocations.
Work with project leadership to communicate these to government
stakeholders.
- Monitor project progress, performance, and adherence to
cybersecurity and compliance requirements (e.g., RMF).
- Work cross-functionally to ensure alignment with cybersecurity
controls, accreditation boundaries, and sustainment expectations.
- Drive implementation of DoD-compliant IT architectures, including
CDS, CSfC, and related classified communications solutions.
- Coordinate stakeholder communication and reporting, including some
executive-level briefings.
- Support security audits and respond to findings related to program
execution.
Required Qualifications
- Minimum 10 years of progressive systems administration experience in
Linux and/or Windows environments
- Minimum of 10 years of experience in IT project management with at
least 5 years managing DoD classified IT programs.
- Nutanix AHV support highly desired, VMWare ESXi experience can be a
substitute
- Active TS/SCI clearance is required.
- Demonstrated experience delivering large-scale IT infrastructure
deployments and data center projects.
- Strong knowledge of DoD security and compliance frameworks,
especially RMF, STIGs, and cybersecurity controls.
- Experience building and optimizing IT support models, including
helpdesk tiering and escalation processes.
- Experience with cross-domain solutions (CDS) and Commercial
Solutions for Classified (CSfC) architectures.
- Familiarity with classified environments, including system
authorization boundaries and IA considerations.
- Exceptional communication and leadership skills, with the ability to
engage technical and non-technical stakeholders.
Certifications (preferred but not required):
- Nutanix Certified Professional (NCP)
- VMware VCP (any version)
- Red Hat Certified System Administrator (RHCSA) or higher
- Cisco or Dell networking certifications (e.g., CCNA, D-Networking)
- ITIL v4 Foundation certification or higher.
Desired Qualifications
- Strong knowledge of Red Hat systems including Satellite, IDM, and
automation with Ansible
- Proficiency in enterprise virtualization, ideally with Nutanix AHV;
VMware ESXi acceptable
- Hands-on experience supporting Cisco and Dell switching and routing
technologies
- Demonstrated experience in developing support SOPs, ticket
workflows, and training lower-tier support
- Practical experience with monitoring and management tools such as
SolarWinds, Elastic, Veeam, and BigFix
- Strong scripting skills using PowerShell and/or Bash for task
automation and configuration management
- Exposure to multitenant, high-availability, and secure computing
environments
- Familiarity with Dell PowerScale (Isilon) storage systems
- Experience with Everfox (formerly Forcepoint) products Trusted
Gateway System (TGS), High Speed Guard, TTC/TTC-R, and Commercial
Solutions for Classified (CSfC).
- Hands-on knowledge of project documentation and configuration
management tools (e.g., Jira, Confluence, MS Project).
- Agile/Scrum methodology familiarity or certification is a bonus.
