Northrop Grumman Space Systems is seeking a Sr. Staff Guidance, Navigation, and Control (GNC) Lead Engineer with the background, vision, and people skills to serve as a senior technical leader for the GEOStar-1 Integrated Product Team (IPT). This position will be located in Dulles, VA.
The GEOStar-1 GNC team has a demonstrated history of exceptional technical achievements and are leaders in innovative solutions to the rapidly growing and evolving field of rendezvous and proximity operations. The ideal candidate should be highly-talented and ambitious, willing to lead and take responsibility for the GNC subsystem on a new and challenging GEOStar-1 effort.
**Role & Responsibilities:** In this role, you will primarily serve as the Cost Account Manager (CAM) for the GNC subsystem on a single program, but some oversight and coordination across the IPT is expected.
In addition, a spacecraft GNC Senior Staff Engineer is expected to:
+ Serve as an expert for a significant technical area within the team, applying creativity and vision for the future that require synthesis of related disciplines.
+ Provide teams with internal and external knowledge of the technical industry and how it impacts the company, demonstrating broad technical expertise.
+ Regularly take a leadership role in providing insight and knowledge transfer to others on internal and external technical solutions to solve complex problems.
+ Design, analyze, and tune spacecraft attitude and position control loops using time and frequency domain techniques.
+ Design, analyze, and tune sequential filters (e.g., Kalman filters) for attitude determination and relative navigation.
+ Design, develop, test, and verify flight algorithms for the GNC subsystem and support flight software qualification testing.
+ Analyze and test the spacecraft GNC subsystem performance using simulations and other analytic tools.
+ Perform analysis to support early design phase concept development, including actuator sizing and placement, sensor selection and placement, and predicted performance assessments.
+ Develop simulation models for sensors, actuators, system dynamics, and the space environment.
+ Document designs, analysis, and test results and create presentation materials.
+ Present designs, analysis, and test results to internal and external customers.
+ Provide technical leadership, direction, and mentoring to other technical employees.
**Basic Qualifications:**
+ BS Degree in Engineering, Physics, or Math with at least 14 years of professional experience (12 years with a Master’s, 10 years with a PhD). Experience can be considered in lieu of degree.
+ U.S. citizenship is required for this position, with an active Top Secret clearance at the time of application.
**Preferred Qualifications:**
+ MS or PhD degree in Engineering, Physics, or Math.
+ Minimum overall GPA of 3.25.
+ Proficiency in MATLAB/Simulink and C/C++.
+ Experience in spacecraft GNC subsystem design, analysis, and testing.
+ Experience implementing GNC algorithms on embedded systems.
+ Current Top Secret/SCI Clearance is preferred.
+ Prior work experience in a related field.
+ Proficiency in Microsoft Office suite, version control tools such as SVN or Git.
+ Previous/current membership or leadership roles in professional groups, clubs, or extracurricular activities.
+ Excellent analytical and problem-solving abilities.

The above salary range represents a general guideline; however, Northrop Grumman considers a number of factors when determining base salary offers such as the scope and responsibilities of the position and the candidate's experience, education, skills and current market conditions.
Depending on the position, employees may be eligible for overtime, shift differential, and a discretionary bonus in addition to base pay. Annual bonuses are designed to reward individual contributions as well as allow employees to share in company results. Employees in Vice President or Director positions may be eligible for Long Term Incentives.
