The Opportunity:
The Payroll Operations team is transforming how we work at Smurfit Westrock. Multiple projects are currently underway in an effort to produce efficient and sustainable processes. The Payroll Systems team plays a vital role in the department’s day-to-day operations by providing timely support to our internal customers as the first point of contact for system-related issues. The team also supports multiple functions within payroll operations, such as payroll tax and payroll administration. We work closely with the technology organization to identify and deliver solutions while addressing technical issues as they arise. This role will primarily support our timekeeping system while working collaboratively to support the overall payroll-processing function.
We are seeking a bilingual (French and English) speaking payroll professional with an aptitude for technical solutions. An analyst on the Payroll Systems team is expected to demonstrate attention to detail and possess working knowledge and understanding of the functional components of payroll, primarily time and attendance. The candidate will be expected to regularly leverage their technical and functional expertise to deliver quality support to our internal customers.
How you will impact Smurfit Westrock:
Research, triage, and resolve issues reported by end-users and internal customers as neededEnsure that employee time and attendance grants are processed in compliance with the terms of our collective bargaining agreements.Regularly engage with the team in recurring huddles and ad-hoc meetings to discuss issues.sEnsure the timely and accurate triaging/progression of SNOW (ServiceNow) tickets.Build and maintain relationships with Payroll’s vendors and internal business partners.Read the CBAs and conduct testing by comparing their terms to the system’s behavior.rFulfill the role as a subject matter expert for our time and attendance processes and procedures.Facilitate training and actively engage in delivering communication related to system updates.sRespond to data requests, as neededUAT TestingGather system requirements and interpret data to assess the system’s behavior.Support general timekeeping and payroll-processing functionsIdentify opportunities for improvement and best practicesProject implementation and system maintenanceWhat you need to succeed:
Required: Fluency in English and French (verbal and written)Required: Canadian PayrollRequired: Strong knowledge of Canadian payroll legislation, including CRA and provincial requirementsPreferred: Minimum 5 Years of Payroll and/or Time and Attendance functional experienceBachelor's Degree or equivalent in Finance, HR, Accounting, Computer Science, or Management - Information Systems or related field. 3-5 years of project coordination, business analyst experience across multiple projects or initiativesExcellent ability to understand technical concepts and communicate with non-technical audiencesAbility to read and understand potentially complex labor agreementsAbility to translate the requirements of the company’s labor agreements into the system’s configurationExcellent analytical skills and ability to design and document functional specifications Strong attention to detail in situations that involve complexityAbility to handle confidential informationFundamental knowledge of the functions related to time and attendance processes and proceduresBe self-directed and results-oriented while working in a collaborative environment.tTrack record in coordinating and working with cross-functional teams (IT and Business) in cross-domain solutionsHigh proficiency with the MS suite of products (Word, Excel, PPT, and SharePoint)Having an affinity for analysis and working with data, and potentially complex calculationsProblem-solving skills to find multiple viable solutions for a challengeAnalytical skills with a fundamental knowledge of batch-processing and data validationCritical thinking to determine what data and information are required for the task
