We're seeking a Senior Software Development Manager to lead engineering teams within Amazon's Center of Excellence for Orchestration (ORCA). This role will oversee both our current business intelligence orchestration platform and our strategic transition to an agentic orchestration system. The position requires managing teams responsible for mission-critical workflow operations serving Amazon's diverse businesses, from Retail to Digital Services.
The successful candidate will drive technical excellence in two key areas: maintaining and enhancing our existing multi-tenant orchestration platform that powers thousands of business workflows, while simultaneously architecting our evolution toward an AI-powered orchestration ecosystem. You'll lead multiple engineering teams, establish technical roadmaps, and ensure operational excellence across both traditional and emerging platform capabilities. Your teams will be responsible for developing robust, scalable solutions that maintain high availability while incorporating innovative autonomous operations features.
This role demands strong technical leadership experience in distributed systems, workflow orchestration, and enterprise-scale platforms. The ideal candidate should have a proven track record of managing large engineering teams, exceptional system design skills, and experience with both traditional orchestration systems and modern AI/ML technologies. You'll collaborate closely with product management, architecture teams, and business stakeholders while maintaining a strong focus on engineering excellence and operational reliability.
Key job responsibilities
- Hire, mentor and lead software development teams including leaders.
- Lead design, implementation, and deployment of successful highly distributed, large scale services.
- Play a critical role in the broad business planning, working closely with senior executives to develop business targets and resource requirements. Help form long-term technical and business strategy and goals.
- Understand business context to decisions made within and across groups.
- Work closely with the engineers to architect and develop the best technical design and approach. Be a hands-on technical leader and contributor.
- Maintain a current understanding of industry and technology trends.
- Work with globally distributed team.
Basic Qualifications
- 10+ years of engineering experience
- 5+ years of engineering team management experience
- 10+ years of planning, designing, developing and delivering consumer software experience
- Experience partnering with product or program management teams
- Experience managing multiple concurrent programs, projects and development teams in an Agile environment
- Bachelor's degree
