Sr. Proposal Engineer

Senior Proposal Engineer

Parts and Field Service is a global business unit with harmonised ways of working and shared tools, enabling us to deliver outstanding service to our customers worldwide. Our Sales Proposals function plays a vital role in supporting transactional business by crafting tailored service offers that address our customers’ maintenance needs. We are proud of our inclusive culture - we value, respect, and embrace diverse perspectives. Safety, environmental responsibility, and employee wellbeing are the cornerstones of everything we do, and we never compromise on them.

We are now looking for a Senior Proposal Engineer to join our skilled Sales Proposals team in Rubbestadneset, Norway. This is a permanent position, and we offer a hybrid working model, allowing flexibility to work partially remotely after your induction period.

In this role, you will work closely with local sales teams and engage directly with customers. While most meetings are held virtually, occasional travel will be required to meet customers face-to-face.

What will you be doing?

As a Senior Proposal Engineer, you will play a key role in supporting our sales efforts by developing technically and commercially sound service proposals tailored to customer needs. Working closely with local sales teams and internal stakeholders, you’ll be responsible for managing the full proposal process, from initial scoping to final documentation and handover.

Your day-to-day will involve crafting compelling lifecycle solutions, coordinating input from various departments, and ensuring all proposals clearly communicate our value proposition. You’ll also engage directly with customers, identifying and promoting solutions that address both their stated and anticipated needs.

Your responsibilities for the role include, but are not limited to:

Creating technically and commercially sound sales proposals and packaged lifecycle solutions that address customer needs and highlight our value proposition. Managing and coordinating the end-to-end proposal process for assigned cases, involving both internal and external stakeholders. Collaborating closely with customers and internal stakeholders such as Sales, Field Services, Workshops, Spare Parts, and Contract Management to ensure seamless proposal development. Delivering high-quality documentation, including delivery terms and conditions, commercial propositions, margin calculations, technical scope descriptions, and maintenance/upgrade scope descriptions. Preparing comprehensive handover documentation for the service delivery team. Identifying and promoting tailored solutions that meet both explicit and implied customer needs, in close cooperation with local sales teams.

The following will enable you to succeed in this role:

BSc or MSc in Marine Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Technical Business Administration, or a related field. Relevant work experience may compensate for a lack of formal education. Experience in similar sales-related positions. Practical field experience or familiarity with field operations is advantageous. Solid understanding of the marine market and equipment, with knowledge of Wärtsilä engines and propulsion systems considered an advantage. Commercial and business acumen, with the ability to understand customer operations and identify value-adding solutions. Sales- and service-oriented mindset, with a proactive and customer-focused approach. Fluency in Norwegian and proficiency in English, both written and spoken, as we operate in both local and global markets. Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to collaborate effectively across teams and with customers. A structured and independent working style, with a strong sense of responsibility and initiative. Proficiency in digital tools and systems, including SAP, Microsoft Office, Salesforce, and similar platforms.
