NG's Defense Systems Sector is seeking a Senior Principal Manufacturing Engineer to join our growing team through a remote position in Huntington Beach, California. You will become part of Northrop Grumman’s Lifecycle Sustainment and Modernization Solutions (LSMS). LSMS provides sustainment support for the US Air Force B-2 Bomber, E-3 Sentry, Airborne Warning and Control System, and numerous other Government platforms. Our team members complete engineering, reverse engineering, and logistics solution efforts to solve complex obsolescence problems and ensure warfighter supportability.

This position will be a Manufacturing Engineering liaison for Northrop Grumman Defense Systems on-site at a manufacturing vendor’s facility. In this role you will work closely with selected suppliers to produce composite components and build final assemblies. This effort involves collaboration/ oversight of manufacturing processes, procedures and production layouts for details, assemblies, equipment installation, processing, machining, and material handling. Provide collaboration/ oversight with the arrangement of machines within plant facilities to help ensure the most efficient and productive layout. Offer input for sequence of operations and aid in drafting and reviewing procedures for the fabrication of tools and equipment and other functions that affect product requirements, quality, and performance.  Work to incorporate inspection and test requirements into the production plan as required.  Ensure processes and procedures are following regulations.

This role involves interfacing with internal and external customers, program offices, engineering disciplines, and executive management.

Responsibilities:

Serve as the primary Manufacturing Engineering focal for the manufacturer and Northrop Grumman Defense Systems (NGDS) integration during entire pre-production, production, and return to storage phases of performance of a B-2 major component and spares program

Act independently and in conjunction with supplier to uncover and resolve issues associated with the development and implementation of assigned projects

Review drawings and specifications required to manufacture composite parts for producibility and submit Request for Change/Information (RC/Is) as required

Perform or participate in timeline analysis, trade studies, requirements allocation and interface definition studies to translate customer requirements into manufacturing solutions

Assist as necessary the Manufacturer’s planners in creating new planning for composite components

Review as necessary the Manufacturer’s Manufacturing Top-Down (MFG Process flow) based on Engineering requirements, including identification of required tooling and Special Processing

Basic Required Qualifications:

Must have a Bachelor's Degree in a STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Math) discipline with 8 or more years' experience in aviation, systems engineering, aerospace, or manufacturing/production or 6 years with a Masters or 4 years with a PhD

5 years minimum experience with composites manufacturing processes (i.e., tooling, inspection, testing, hand layup, automated layup, cure experience, and/or machining experience)

Experience with reading and determination of requirements from 3D models, drawings, and specifications and incorporation/ documentation of those requirements into the manufacturing process

Working knowledge of geometric dimensioning and tolerancing (GD&T)

Experience drafting, maintaining, and modifying work instructions and/or process specifications

Experience working with IPTs, other stakeholders, and various customers such as Air Force or other government entities

General understanding and experience with configuration control

Strong Familiarity with Process Development & Controls

Ability to travel 10-20% of the time

Must have the ability to obtain and maintain DoD Secret Clearance and Special Program Access

Preferred Qualifications:

A current and active DoD Secret level security clearance with a periodic re-investigation OR an original adjudication date completed within the last 5 years

Demonstrated technical leadership skills, decisiveness, and ability to make sound technical judgments with limited information

Experience with using Microsoft Office Products (Word, PowerPoint, Excel, MS-Project, Visio) 

Prior experience operating in a dynamic environment of increasing production schedules and high delivery rates

MRP or ERP systems use and understanding

Experience in computer aided design (i.e., NX, CATIA, SOLIDWORKS).

Experience with production assembly/fabrication or production manufacturing operations

Experience with Process Failure Modes and Effects Analysis (PFMEA)

Technical Writing capability

Experience drafting, maintaining, and modifying work instructions and/or process specifications

Experience with aircraft systems to include structures, composites, and flight controls

Salary Range: $99,000.00 - $148,400.00

The above salary range represents a general guideline; however, Northrop Grumman considers a number of factors when determining base salary offers such as the scope and responsibilities of the position and the candidate's experience, education, skills and current market conditions.

Depending on the position, employees may be eligible for overtime, shift differential, and a discretionary bonus in addition to base pay. Annual bonuses are designed to reward individual contributions as well as allow employees to share in company results. Employees in Vice President or Director positions may be eligible for Long Term Incentives. In addition, Northrop Grumman provides a variety of benefits including health insurance coverage, life and disability insurance, savings plan, Company paid holidays and paid time off (PTO) for vacation and/or personal business.
