POSITION PROFILE
The Senior Material Planner is responsible for planning of raw material, component parts, services and/or finished goods to support the customer order schedule and ship date. This includes managed stock replenishment and coordination across the supply chain.  The Sr Material Planner should act as a leader for other planners and drive change/improvements.  Responsibilities for this position include the following in addition to the Material Planner responsibilities.
 

Acts as a resource for decision-making and problem solving

Develop and control inventory strategies and investments to support manufacturing needs while ensuring the best possible utilization of inventory space and dollars, as well as inventory accuracy

Have an extensive knowledge of MRP (Material Requirements Planning), purchasing policies, procedures, and processes

Champions the development and implementation of new strategies relative to materials department and the company

Provides training and act as a mentor to the Material Planning Team

Facilitate communication to develop action plans to resolve supply constraints and/or bottlenecks

Monitor inventory levels to objectives; timely follow-up on discrepancies, negative inventory issues

Work with New Product Engineers and New Product Development to represent material strategies, manufacturing needs, and supplier development in new product development and implementation as well as identifying opportunities to reduce MK's total material cost. (ie part consolidation, part design)

Review excess and obsolete inventory and take required action to meet corporate goals

Identify and implement cost reductions

Support Plant Quality with regards to RN/warranty recovery with timely disposition of rejected materials

Work with, support, and initiate communication with Supplier Development Managers and Supplier Commodity Managers to ensure effective communication with and continued development of the supplier base, which includes training, communicating business needs, and articulating overall business capabilities

Support supplier on-time and department ship goals

Performs other duties as necessary and requested to support business objectives

Required Experience

Bachelor’s degree or five to seven years (5-7) experience in a similar material planning position

Experience in a Production/Operations environment

Extensive knowledge of supplier scheduling concepts MRP/MPS/Lean/JIT

Required Skills

Extensive knowledge in Microsoft Office Suite: MS Excel, Access and Word

Analytical, problem-solving capability

Ability to prioritize

Demonstrated ability to work in an environment with frequently changing priorities, and with different tasks, responsibilities, and people

Demonstrated communication skills that can successfully explore alternatives and points of view to reach an agreement that all parties support and accept

Demonstrate leadership and project management skills

A team player that can motivate and lead others to accomplish similar goals yet be able to work independently

Must possess a good understanding of manufacturing, production, scheduling processes as well as overall business capabilities for both MK and suppliers

Must have demonstrated a strong technical knowledge of material requirements planning, scheduling and lean initiatives

Team oriented and customer focused individual
