As part of our Aecon Utilities sector, Aecon Utility Engineering (AUE) is a division focusing on engineering design, project and quality management, employing over 100 engineers, technicians, projects managers, and clerical staff.
Aecon Utilities Engineering is seeking a Senior Manager to lead the Electrical division in our U.S. operations. Reporting to the General Manager, this role is responsible for providing strategic leadership and operational oversight to ensure the successful delivery and financial performance of key projects. The ideal candidate will bring extensive experience in the local distribution company (LDC) sector, a strong network of industry relationships, and a proven ability to drive business growth. This position offers the opportunity to lead high-impact initiatives, cultivate client partnerships, and guide a skilled team in delivering innovative, high-quality solutions.
The incumbent for this role will be based anywhere in the U.S. with ability to travel extensively across the U.S. as required.
Key Responsibilities:
Manage and oversee electrical distribution projects from inception to completion. Ensure all projects comply with industry standards, regulations, and safety protocols. Drive business development initiatives to expand the company's client base, market presence, and building client relationships. Lead contract negotiations and manage stakeholder expectations to ensure project success. Review and approve detailed engineering designs, schematics, and bills of materials for substation and distribution systems. Develop and implement strategies for improving electrical systems and processes. Lead and mentor a team of engineers and technicians, providing guidance and support. Collaborate with other departments to ensure seamless integration of electrical systems. Conduct regular inspections and maintenance of electrical systems. Prepare and present reports on project status, budgets, and timelines. Stay updated with the latest advancements in electrical engineering and distribution. Ensure compliance with technical standards, codes, and client specifications. Collaborate with estimating teams on RFP responses, cost estimates, and project schedules. Coordinate with clients, municipalities, and utilities to align design and execution plans.
Required Knowledge and Experience:
Proven leadership, business development and operational experience in the Telecommunications industry in the U.S. Bachelor of Science in Electrical Engineering or related field. Professional Engineer (P.E.) license preferred. Minimum of 10 years of experience in electrical design and distribution. Expertise in U.S. engineering standards, regulatory compliance, and cross-functional team leadership is a strong asset. In-depth understanding of the electrical industry, including key players, standards, permitting, easements, and best practices. Experience with major LDCs (e.g., Duke Energy, Exelon, FPL). Experience managing and leading design teams, including overseeing project schedules, timelines, and resource allocation. Proven leadership and management skills. Strong knowledge of electrical codes, standards, and regulations. Excellent problem-solving and analytical skills. Effective communication and interpersonal skills. Ability to work in a fast-paced and dynamic environment. Demonstrate ability in identifying and capitalizing on new business opportunities, driving strategic growth and innovation. Exceptional leadership and communication skills with a strategic mindset and problem-solving ability. A strong commitment to fostering an inclusive and diverse workplace.
