The Hartford’s Information Protection (THIP) organization is looking for a talented professional to join a high-performing team that is charged with supporting and enhancing our core Firewall platforms. As a Firewall specialist, this position will be part of the primary technical team tasked with engineering and maintaining our firewall platforms, specializing in Palo Alto. The individual will have the opportunity to help shape the future direction and use of Palo Alto as currently deployed at the Hartford. Additionally, the position will have broad accountabilities around currency, patching and operational support metrics for Palo. This role will provide thought leadership, professional support and valued contributions to a range of production support, development and project activities. We are looking for an experienced professional, who has deep knowledge and skills across firewalls, along with an understanding of industry best practices. The ideal candidate will have experience implementing and supporting firewalls in a cloud environment and have experience in both AWS and GCP.
The right person will develop a deep understanding of Palo’s usage and consumption, continuously advocate for automation and process efficiency, and where necessary challenge and influence management to take actions to appropriately utilize the systems. The role is heavily focused on ensuring currency and stability in the environment. The right person will have a wide-ranging technical knowledge with a desire to learn and grow their technical skills across all facets of our Palo implementation.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
Support the technical design, implementation and operational support of firewall and related technologies in both on-premise data center and cloud-hosted deployments.A track record in production support / system support activitiesConsult with business and vendor partners to assist on network connectivity dependencies and authorizations across the company’s firewall systems.Support application areas in responding to inquiries regarding The Hartford’s policy controls.Approve and design identity access requests for support teams across segmentation boundariesRespond to ad-hoc technical security consulting requests, including at times supporting teammates with security-related projects and support servicesDevelop a dashboard to support ongoing analytics and metricsIdentify and assesses the severity and potential impact of risksCommunicate risk assessment findings to risk owners outside Information Security in a way that consistently drives objective, fact-based decisions.Requires an off hour on call rotation.This role will have a Hybrid work schedule, with the expectation of working in an office (Hartford, CT, Columbus, OH, Chicago, IL, or Charlotte, NC) 3 days a week (Tuesday through Thursday).
QUALIFICATIONS:
2+ Years supporting Palo Alto firewall / technologiesPreferred to have both GCP and AWS experienceIndustry recognized certifications, such as Certified Information Systems Security Professional (CISSP), AWS Security certifications, Palo Alto Certifications are preferred.Strong organizational skills with the capacity to multi-task on projects with shifting prioritiesA process-oriented mindset with a professional demeanor and customer-focused supportEffective decision-making capabilities with a proven ability to weigh the cost-benefit of potential actions or decisionsConfidence to effectively influence others to modify their opinions, plans or behaviorsDemonstrated interest in the continuous learning mindsetOriginal and innovative thinking that produces new ideas and creates innovative solutions.Candidate must be authorized to work in the US without company sponsorship. Compensation
The listed annualized base pay range is primarily based on analysis of similar positions in the external market. Actual base pay could vary and may be above or below the listed range based on factors including but not limited to performance, proficiency and demonstration of competencies required for the role. The base pay is just one component of The Hartford’s total compensation package for employees. Other rewards may include short-term or annual bonuses, long-term incentives, and on-the-spot recognition. The annualized base pay range for this role is:
