The Senior Histocompatibility Scientist provides advanced technical skills necessary to organize and perform histocompatibility typing for transplantation and disease associations.
EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE
Minimum Qualifications:
Bachelor's degree in a Clinical Laboratory Science or Basic Science Two (2) years of experience in a clinical histocompatibility laboratory

Required:
MLS Certification by the American Society of Clinical Pathology (ASCP) or MT Certification by American Medical Technologists (AMT). CHT(ACHI): Certified Histocompatibility Technologist by the American College of Histocompatibility and Immunogenetics.Preferred:
CHS(ACHI): Certified Histocompatibility Specialist by the American College of Histocompatibility and Immunogenetics.ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS
Responsible for recruitment, hiring, payroll, orientation, training, supervision, evaluation, competency assessment, coaching, disciplinary action and/or termination process of divisional employees. Supervises the work of laboratory personnel engaged in performing routine and specialized technical procedures, including planning laboratory work, evaluating work performed and handling procedural and technical laboratory problems. Acts as a lead worker, supervises, directs, plans, develops implements, evaluates, and oversees the execution of daily operations including scheduling work assignments. Performs histocompatibility testing for transplantation and disease associations. Assures accuracy of results and reports to transplant surgeon and other appropriate personnel. Evaluates immunocompetency of transplant patient prior to and following procedure when necessary. Coordinates donor/recipient information and status with transplant team. Participates in on-call rotation schedule of 24 hours a day, 365 days per year coverage for deceased donor testing. Maintains complete records of transplant patients. Draws blood from normal control subjects as necessary. Conducts specialized blood tests to determine antibody level of transplant recipients. Prepares and enters test data and results into laboratory information system. Monitors and evaluates quality control procedures. Responsible for laboratory safety proficiency. Assists in evaluating laboratory services and procedures including making recommendations and implementing the changes. Performs evaluation and validation of new testing procedures and techniques. Assists in development and update of laboratory procedure manual. Assists lab manager in maintaining laboratory accreditation agencies’ standards. Participates in the competency assessment of laboratory testing personnel. Adheres to internal controls established for department. Adheres to all safety protocols in each laboratory area.WORK SCHEDULE
Day shift, Monday through Friday, with a rotating on-call schedule.
