Job Responsibilities:

Magna Steyr USA is looking for talented and experienced team members in complete vehicle development who are determined and passionate about developing the next level industry standard for vehicle architectures and production solutions. In the Interiors discipline, the Senior Engineer is responsible for leading the engineering activities relating to the design and development of the vehicle Interior system. This position has a high level of responsibility and visibility and will interface with OEMs, Magna divisions, global module group teams, and Tier 2 suppliers.   

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:Technical ResponsibilityContribute to the Technical Area strategy and growth of the engineering teamSupport Technical Area core competenciesSupport and contribute to knowledge base of internal and external best practicesLead benchmarking studies and contribute to the benchmark knowledgebasePropose and lead advanced development topics supporting the technical areaPropose continuous improvement opportunities to level up team skills, qualifications, tools and processesLead design proposals with set-based engineering principlesLead designs with 6 Sigma design principlesSupport complex problem solving with cross functional teamsProject Planning, Target Achievement, Monitoring & ReportingEmploy technical expertise to lead the engineering development of one or more subsystemsSupport the project team(s) engineering in achieving project objectives, performance and cost requirements, and timing milestonesLead external support, services and resources supporting the project engineering developmentSupport work development packages assigned to third partiesConfirm OEM and Magna project performance targets and assure the targets are achievableConfirm OEM and Magna project cost and timing targets and assure the targets are achievableSupport the Project Manager (PM) and contribute to the project resource planning, budget development, and status reportingBe responsible for the release of Computer Aided Design (CAD) data into internal and external sitesBe responsible for the release of Computer Aided Engineering (CAE), simulations and studies into internal or external sitesBe responsible for designs capable of meeting the serial production tact, First Time Quality (FTQ) and ergo targetsBe responsible for designs meeting the project performance and cost targetsBe responsible for designs meeting market region regulations, FMVSS, ECE, CNCA/GB, etc.Confirm the Design Verification Plan and Report (DVP&R) comprehends all project targets and is completeConfirm the project Design Failure Mode and Effects and Analysis (DFMEA) comprehends all product risks and product usage casesProject Related Interface Support and Promote Project and Operations CollaborationLead global development touchpoint and milestone meetingsCollaborate with Advanced Manufacturing Engineering (AME) to assure production feasibilityCollaborate with the design studio to assure product appearance harmonyCollaborate with all cross functions to make complex decisionsCollaborate with the Technical Area Head to assure concurrent best practice sharingCollaborate with the other project technical staff  Employee Related TasksEnsure cooperation with all areas within the engineering and request the required frame conditionsEnsure cooperation with project managementEnsure cooperation with all other groups within the areaSecure knowledge of development tools within the groupEnsure training of employees according to the required skillsCooperation with all Magna Steyr locationsEscalation problems at the earliest time with the appropriate team membersQualifications:To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty and responsibility satisfactorily. Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform the essential functions.Must have a positive “can do” attitudeMust be flexible and able to course correct paths according to priority alignmentEducation / Experience:Education– BSMEExperience - 10+years Interiors developmentExperience in Complete Vehicle development and manufactureExperience supervising or managing technical personnel preferredExcellent communication skills and experience working with global teamsExperience in launching a complete vehicle from initial concept through launch phasesExperience in design release and DVP&R testing of components and assembliesExperience in thermoplastic, Thermoplastic Polyolefin (TPO), and Glass Filled Polypropylene (GFPP) moldingExperience in Interior advanced development like Cockpit, Seat, and Trim assembliesExperience in welding thermoplastic materials, ultrasonic, laser, infrared, vibration, and multi-materialExperience in cut and sew trim components along with textile developmentExperience in fastening, threaded fasteners, riveted fasteners, and clip retainersExperience in mold in color (MIC) class “A” interior partsExperience in RSS dimensional evaluationExperience in development of SOR/SOW along with DVP&R testing specificationsSpecial Knowledge / Skills:Proficient computer knowledge and skills, Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Project)Computer knowledge and skills in CAD, Teamcenter, and CAE simulation preferredSix Sigma certification preferredProfessional communication skills (written and verbal) Physical Demands / Work Environment:Normal amount of sitting or standing, average mobility to move around an office environment, able to conduct normal amount of work at a computerMay require local, domestic, and international travel – up to 60% domesticAwareness, Unity, Empowerment:At Magna, we believe that a diverse workforce is critical to our success.
