The Chief Engineer will have the overall responsibility to ensure that services provided at the facilities meet University standards and deliver the greatest value to support the North Team building occupants. This includes University classrooms, research, administrative facilities, and third-party tenants. Supervises a team of building engineers, plans, coordinates, and directs building systems related activities such as routine preventative maintenance, repair projects and improvements to building operation procedures. Promotes efficient, economical, continuous and safe operation of equipment. Manages their team’s activities to accomplish their duties while staying within budget. Focuses all efforts on meeting the needs of our customers; students, staff, faculty, and tenants who use the facilities. **Responsibilities** 1. Performs high-level departmental needs assessments and analysis. 2. Evaluates cost and resource constraints and makes recommendations. 3. Creates long-term, multi-departmental master plans. 4. Develops project proposals by coordinating with department and other related business units. 5. Plans and coordinates multiple services to meet departmental needs. 6. May prepare special studies and reports for regulatory agencies. 7. May negotiate interdepartmental layout and space stipulations. Three years directly related experience. Commitment to provide excellent customer service, planning and analytical skills required. Demonstrated human relations and effective communications skills also required. Technical expertise in related area may be required in some areas. Recruits, interviews, selects, orients, and supervises staff members 2. Reviews all maintenance tasks and associated costs within the District 3. Performs inspections of district mechanical and other equipment spaces, job sites, project sites and inspects the engineer team’s work practices in the field 4. Acts as resource person and coordinator for explaining and complying with the University Policies and Procedures 5. Manages the workflow using available resources and revises the operating procedures as needed 6. Reviews staff performance through periodic performance and salary reviews and provides appropriate feedback 7. Provides for personal and professional development of staff via formal and informal training, mentoring, and coaching 8. Obtains and maintains accountability of necessary equipment and tools and manages work scheduling using the CMS system 9. Reviews staff performance and the maintenance of the physical facilities including buildings and equipment 10. Negotiates all types of contracts, on behalf of the Associate Director 11. Completes analysis on PM and CMS work orders 12. Prepares recommendations for the Capital Improvement lists with accompanying cost estimates 13. Prepares recommendations for building system equipment renewal and renovation, upgrades and changes to existing sequences of operations to improve reliability and efficiency 14. Coordinates inspections with the state and other auditors 15. Coordinates customer services requests 16. Collaborates with Facility Managers, Project Managers, other Facilities groups, customers, and outside entities on projects 17. Facilitates cooperative and collaborative community and institutional relationships 18. Ensures customer satisfaction by analyzing complaints, concerns and suggestions and providing appropriate follow-through 19. Determines and tracks appropriate metrics to validate level of performance of the engineering team 20. Provide support and back up for other members of the district management team in their absence Minimum Qualifications Bachelor’s degree in Business, Facilities Management, Engineering, or a related field, or equivalency (one year of education can be substituted for two years of related work experience); four years of progressively more responsible experience, demonstrated interpersonal skills, budgeting experience, and a commitment to provide excellent customer service required.
