This role focuses on identifying new federal business opportunities, cultivating relationships with senior leaders within government agencies, securing contracts, grants, and other sources of federal revenue. The Senior Development Officer leverages deep knowledge of federal legislative and regulatory processes combined with a robust network of contacts to position the organization competitively, expand its portfolio of federally funded projects, and achieves ambitious revenue targets. SHI’s Senior Development Officer for Federal Affairs advocates federal growth strategies with our current, and net new contracts positioning our existing contracts to effectively identify, develop, attain, and maximize new business opportunities. Additionally, this role works closely with our team of consultants, inside Federal sales, capture, proposals, and Solutions teams to identify potential contracts and to help position SHI for those contracts.     The Senior Development Officer for Federal Affairs will report to the Director of Federal Programs. **Role Description** + Build and support our relationships with customers and partners that align with strategic initiatives and contracts. + Help sales establish a qualified pipeline of opportunities. + Develop and implement strategies to enhance the organization’s presence and influence at the federal level. + Build and maintain strong relationships with federal agency program officers, congressional staff, Administration officials, regulatory bodies, and relevant federal stakeholders. + Monitor federal legislative process and policy developments that impact the organization’s funding and operations. + Represent the organization in meetings, briefings, and coalitions related to federal opportunities and advocacy. + Collaborate with Federal VP and Director of Federal programs to align federal affairs strategies with organizational goals and programmatic needs. + Track, analyze, and report on federal funding trends, budgets, and legislative priorities. + Lead or support advocacy campaigns on parochial or jointly within industry trades to secure federal support for key initiatives. + Support continual business development process improvements. + Understand government contracting vehicles, agency buying practices, trends, priorities, and procedures. + Facilitate and grow existing relationships with partners and CO’s in order to identify new opportunities and add value to existing client base. + Contribute to obtaining industry intelligence, assessing competitors, and helping position SHI to win new business. + Collaborate and develop strategies jointly with SHI sellers, capture, and sales support to identify, qualify, and develop upcoming opportunities. + May attend conferences, thought leadership events, and other external meetings to explore business development opportunities. + Understand the profitable, strategic contracts used by SHI sellers. **Behaviors and Competencies** + Communication: Can effectively communicate complex ideas and information to diverse audiences and can facilitate effective communication between others. + Time Management: Can consistently use time effectively, balance multiple tasks, and meet deadlines. + Self-Development: Can actively seek feedback and use it constructively for personal growth. + Strategic Thinking: Can analyze situations and can lead the development and execution of strategic initiatives. + Decision-Making: Can analyze complex information, predict long-term consequences, and make decisions that align with strategic goals. + Professionalism: Can proactively seek out challenges, initiate projects, and contribute to a professional work environment. + Interpersonal Skills: Can communicate effectively, build relationships, resolve conflicts, and influence others in significant situations. + Self-Motivation: Can proactively seek out challenges, initiate self-development projects, and contribute to personal or professional innovative ideas. + Performance Management: Can provide constructive feedback to others, identify performance gaps, and implement improvement plans. + Business Development: Can proactively seek out new markets, initiate strategic partnerships, and contribute to the development of innovative business strategies. **Skill Level Requirements** + Expertise in client relationship building and new business development - $200,000. The compensation for this position is dependent on job-related knowledge, skills, experience, and market location and, therefore, will vary from individual to individual.
