You Are:
Sr. Development Manager Search
The Opportunity:
· Own the delivery and evolution of Waters' enterprise Search platform, enabling intelligent and personalized search experiences across Waters.com and digital channels.
· Lead the Search engineering squad, ensuring on-time and high-quality delivery of features and platform capabilities.
· Define and drive a robust roadmap that aligns with customer needs, digital strategy, and data relevance.
· Collaborate across engineering, product, and business teams to define technical direction and remove blockers related to data ingestion, indexing, ranking, and query performance.
· Ensure continuous integration, delivery, monitoring, and observability practices are in place for high availability and reliability of the search infrastructure.
· Stay current with evolving Search, AI/ML, and NLP technologies to guide platform modernization and relevancy innovation. Drive best engineering practices including domain-driven design, microservices, cloud-native architecture, and DevOps culture.
· Leadership Technologies: Search Technologies (Apache Solr), Java/J2EE, Microservices, REST APIs, Cloud platforms (AWS/Azure), React (preferred), DevOps tools (CI/CD), Git, Atlassian suite, Monitoring/Observability tools
What you need:
· 10+ years in software engineering with 5+ years in technical leadership or management roles, ideally within enterprise Search Deep expertise in Search technologies such as Apache Solr and other modern search stacks.
· Strong backend engineering background, including Java, J2EE, Spring Boot, REST APIs, and scalable microservices
· Solid understanding of Search fundamentals: relevance tuning, NLP, faceting, ranking, synonyms, stemming, and query parsers.
· Experience with data pipelines and real-time indexing Knowledge of web project lifecycle including front-end/back-end development.
· Familiarity with front-end frameworks (e.g., React) and their integration with Search APIs.
· Experience building platforms in Cloud environments (AWS preferred), with strong focus on security and performance.
Bonus points if:
· Background in observability, logging, and monitoring for high-performance systems. Experience leading teams in agile/scrum environments with proven track record of managing cross-functional delivery. Strong communication, influencing, and stakeholder management skills.
· Passion for building great user experiences through search and discovery innovations.
