POSITION SUMMARY:
The Apparel Designer collaborates with apparel product development teammates, and merchants to develop apparel product designs for assigned brand product lines or projects. Responsibilities include defining market trend/competitive research, developing concept designs, detail design, color story, graphics, and product specifications to a finished stylized design in a complete tech pack.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
Conducts market research to identify new trends, fabrics, and techniques, and seeking design inspiration. Identify opportunities for new products.
Analyzes how market trends tie in with brands and consumer preferences; ensuring products are in agreement with the business strategy.
Collaborates with team to select seasonal themes, make edits to line, create new concepts, identify/select fabrics, and trims.
Presents story, mood, color boards, and inspirational samples to team.
Creates production sketches for development packages and develops tech packs as required.
Collaborates with technical designer/fit tech and product specialist to ensure tech pack are accurate.

EXPERIENCE/QUALIFICATIONS:
Minimum Degree Required: Bachelor's Degree in Fashion Design, or relevant field
Years of experience: 5 or more years in apparel design
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITY:
Ability to creatively use color, shape, texture, and construction techniques
Ability to hand sketch designs, create story boards, and develop detailed tech packs
Excellent design and conceptual skills
Proficient use with software programs: Adobe Illustrator, MS Excel, PLM, NedGraphics
Adaptability to quickly learn other design tools for development processes and team productivity
Knowledge and experience working with Microsoft Office suite.
Ability to multi-task, excellent time management
Team player with ability to be flexible to changing business situations
Can work-around roadblocks using existing knowledge
Product risk assessment skills
Strong analytical and trouble shooting skills
Proactive on problem solving and resolution oriented
Ability to lead through clear and consistent actions
Ability to collaborated in a cross functional team environment
Accountable to follow through on a task from beginning to end
Ability to self-manage/work independently
Coaching and mentoring skills for non-technical development team members

TRAVEL REQUIREMENTS:
5-10% Domestic
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:
Regular computer work, walking, standing, lifting up to 50lbs, etc.

Uses judgment in adapting broad guidelines to achieve desired result. Regular exercise of independent judgment within accepted practices.
