Sr. Controls Technician
Position Summary:

We’re looking for a skilled SR. Controls Technician to support and enhance the reliability of automated production equipment in a fast-paced, 24/7 manufacturing environment. You’ll be the go-to expert for electrical and automation troubleshooting, ensuring minimal downtime and maximum efficiency. This role requires strong mechanical/electrical aptitude, a keen attention to detail, and the flexibility to work rotating shifts and on-call hours, with approximately 10% travel for training or support at other sites.

Key Responsibilities:

Troubleshoot and resolve complex automation and electrical control issues.

Act as the lead troubleshooter for higher-level electrical issues on your shift.

Install, maintain, and repair control system components (PLCs, HMIs, VFDs, sensors, etc.).

Provide on-shift training on control systems to maintenance and operations staff.

Support the Lockout/Tagout (LOTO) program, including audits and training.

Monitor and resolve significant downtime events; drive root cause problem solving.

Assist with preventive and predictive maintenance programs.

Coordinate hardware upgrades and procurement for control systems.

Maintain plant control systems for mixers, conveyors, compressors, pumps, and more.

Daily monitoring and maintenance of key utilities (chillers, compressors, fire systems).

Execute and document work orders, including preventive maintenance tasks.

Support equipment installations, calibrations, rebuilds, and mechanical/electrical repairs.

Collaborate with engineers and technicians to continuously improve system performance.

Maintain and update technical skills, including hardware/software troubleshooting.

Ensure compliance with OSHA regulations, safety procedures, and internal policies.

Perform other related duties and projects as assigned.

Qualifications: Required:

High School Diploma or GED and either:

A degree from a technical school or industrial maintenance certifications (PLC, Machine Logic), or

3+ years of relevant experience in an industrial controls environment.

Preferred:

Experience with Allen-Bradley systems.

Strong working knowledge of:

PLCs, HMIs, VFDs, AC/DC drives and sensors.

Electrical codes (e.g., NEMA), OSHA/industrial safety protocols.

CMMS systems, SAP, and Microsoft Office applications.

Ability to interpret mechanical/electrical schematics and drawings.

Skilled in using electrical troubleshooting tools and techniques.

Work Environment:

Work is performed primarily in a manufacturing environment with exposure to:

Variable temperatures (including ambient and outdoor conditions).

Industrial noise, dust, chemicals, and mechanical hazards.

Moving machinery and equipment with pinch points.

Full-time, on-site role with rotating overtime/on-call needs.

Schedule: Typically Monday–Friday, with flexibility based on operational needs.
