We are looking for engineers with hands-on controls design experience across the project lifecycle from concept design through construction, to commissioning and handover. You will be relied on as a subject matter expert in the controls engineering field. At Amazon we highly support continued learning opportunities and focus on continued employee development.
You must be able to lead a small international team of controls engineers and depend on others to accomplish the required work. As a controls engineer at Amazon you will be working with other internal groups as well as external groups including utilities, manufacturers, vendors, consultants and contractors. Amazon has a global presence and a 25% travel will be expected as part of this role. Projects will be throughout the region and a degree of international travel and support will be necessary. As an engineer within our team you will spend a regular part of your time analyzing and improving every aspect of our value stream.
Key job responsibilities
The Data Center Controls Engineer will be responsible for the following:
• Have deep knowledge of building operations, mechanical plant strategies, EPMS/BMS programming concepts, control diagrams, industrial HVAC, electrical line-ups, one line diagrams, and complex environmental and electrical concepts.
• Data center redundancy, mechanical failure strategies, energy and water conservation best-case practices and data reporting analytics.
• Knowledge of how to successfully operate in high security critical environments while maximizing productivity.
• Innovation of new solutions to support initiative, team, and company goals.
• Lead and facilitate collaboration with multiple teams including construction, programmers, MEP/ACS engineers, and team managers as necessary to accomplish initiative goals.
• Ability to lead external consultant to deliver project specifications to AWS standards and challenge them technically.
• Create, maintain, and disseminate specification documents that pertain to global projects.
• Create, maintain, and disseminate project specific scope of work (SOW) documents including global design standards.
• Vendor selection, bid review, approval of equipment submittals, RFI support and coordination.
• Central point of contact for multiple internal and external groups regarding EPMS/BMS controls standards. Manage and prioritize requests for information on new construction builds, existing site facilities support and legacy site enhancement projects.
• Anticipate roadblocks and risks while providing escalation management.
• Work with regional vendors and manufacturers to specify the appropriate controls equipment.
• Preparation of controls points lists, cable tray routing plans and schedules.
• Expect to travel globally (although predominantly within APAC) when needed to manage and/or support project initiatives.
