As a Sr. Associate, Mechanical Design Engineering supporting Alcon's Engineering function, you will be trusted to work on developing innovative intraocular devices and improving quality, processes, products, packaging and materials across our business to help deliver brilliant outcomes. In this role, a typical day will include:
Contribute to the design, analysis, and testing of mechanical components and systems, applying engineering principles to support product development and manufacturing.Assist in creating detailed CAD models and evaluating prototypes under supervision.Collaborate with cross-functional teams to ensure designs meet performance, cost, and manufacturability requirements.Develop expertise in mechanical design tools and methodologies.Adhere to GxP regulations by strictly following Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs).Maintain accurate and complete documentation, ensuring rigorous quality control.Complete all required training and meet individual job requirements.Commit to continuous improvement and compliance with regulatory requirements.Responsible for the design and development of next-generation intraocular lenses and delivery systems that will be implanted in millions of patients around the world.Works with (and potentially leads) cross-functional project teams to design and develop new products applying DfX principles.Assists with the establishment of product requirements, often by interacting directly with cataract surgeons to understand user needs.Generates new design concepts and designs experiments to optimize designs while managing complex trade-offs.Draft protocols and support the execution of design verification testingIdentify and troubleshoot technical failure modes and design risks, and propose solutions.Support lifecycle management of devices.WHAT YOU’LL BRING TO ALCON:
Bachelor’s Degree or Equivalent years of directly related experience (or high school +10 yrs.; Assoc.+6 yrs.; M.S.+0 yrs.)The ability to fluently read, write, understand, and communicate in English
2 Years of Relevant ExperiencePREFERED SKILLS & EXPERIENCE:
Strong mechanical intuition and a passion for solving complex technical problems.Proficiency using CAD for modeling and documentation of specifications.Experience in all phases of the product development lifecycle including market research, conceptual design, optimization, verification, and commercial launch.Comfortable with concepts of design input, design output, design verification, design validation, and risk analysis.Outstanding attention to detail and strong sense of responsibility for ensuring patients achieve brilliant outcomes.HOW YOU CAN THRIVE AT ALCON:
