POSITION SUMMARY:
The Sr Assistant, Golf Course Superintendent is responsible for assisting with the operation of all the golf course maintenance and partnering with ownership and contractors in building new courses. The responsibilities include turf grass/plant material maintenance programs, property/asset management, personnel management, budget/forecasting, financial management, scheduling/maintenance and irrigation systems, pesticide applications, related recordings, and compliance of regulatory issues at all courses. The Sr Assistant, Golf Course Superintendent works to create an environment where staff is involved and enthusiastic, with open communications and respect for themselves, guests, associates and the property.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
Hires, trains, coaches, and disciplines the golf grounds team. Determines and maintains adequate departmental staffingSets operational and service standardsOversee the care and maintenance of the turf, ornamental plants, shrubs, trees, and wetlands on the facility groundsDirect and assist the staff on the planting of new vegetation, the replacement, spraying, pruning and trimming of trees and shrubs, the preparation of soil plant beds for aesthetically pleasing arrangements and tending to high stress areasProvides detailed annual plan for the various property levels and the designated landscaping areas. Includes rotational design to provide facility with fresh, eye-catching, interesting, and pleasant atmosphereManages an aggressive water usage tracking plan and irrigation systems and provides monthly reporting on retaining ponds, wells, and other water source usageConducts employee performance evaluations and exercises disciplinary actionProvides technical, operational and safety training for employees to ensure that staff is working within OSHA, club safety, state, and federal guidelines for safe working conditionsOversees subordinates in proper and safe operation and maintenance of mechanical and power equipment. Plans and budgets for additional or replacement capital equipmentSupervises and participates in the application and recording of chemical applications (fertilizers and pesticides) on the course’s grounds in compliance with all local, state, and federal regulationsSupervises and controls all maintenance expenses associated with Golf Course Operations, including payroll, supplies, chemicals, and fertilizersDevelops annual operating budget and plans for maintenance and capital improvement projectsMaintains records and completes required reporting. Order parts, supplies and equipment as neededSchedules maintenance practices around guest play and outings to maximize efficiency and minimize disruption to membersCoordinates snow removal and winter maintenance activities when necessaryALL OTHER DUTIES AS ASSIGNEDEXPERIENCE/QUALIFICATIONS:
Minimum Degree Required: High School Diploma or Equivalent5 years of experience in Golf Course Maintenance2-year or 4-year Degree or Certificate in Turf Management (or related field, like agronomy, horticulture, plant science, soil science).Advance computer skills required for financial reporting and control of operations, including use of Microsoft Office Suite.Valid Driver's License.Must obtain a Pesticide Application License within 60 Days of EmploymentPrefer good command of Spanish language.Construction and Grow-In experience preferredKNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITY:
Knowledge of management and maintenance of Bentgrass greens and Zoysiagrass tees, and fairwaysKnowledge of use and operating standards of equipment and tools used in golf course construction and maintenance workKnowledge of the golf game, golf rules and methods of playAbility to anticipate personnel, equipment, and material requirements related to golf course maintenance and repair assignmentsAbility and knowledge to lay out irrigation patterns, drainage patterns, construct tees and/or greensTRAVEL REQUIREMENTS:
