Sr. Accountant
Description We are looking for a meticulous and organized Accountant to manage and oversee the financial operations of our organization in Richmond, Virginia. This role requires a proactive individual who can ensure accuracy in financial records, maintain compliance, and support the organization’s financial health. The ideal candidate will bring expertise in bookkeeping, payroll, and nonprofit financial management. Responsibilities: • Accurately record and monitor financial transactions, including sales, purchases, receipts, and payments, while coordinating with external financial services for journal entries and reconciliation. • Reconcile organizational accounts with bank statements, promptly addressing and resolving any discrepancies. • Prepare monthly financial reports, reconciliations, and statements in collaboration with third-party financial services, and provide updates to department heads and finance committees. • Manage accounts payable and receivable by processing invoices, tracking payments, and generating invoices for funds owed to the organization. • Support bi-monthly payroll processing in coordination with external vendors, ensuring accurate reconciliation of payroll taxes and vendor payments. • Review financial records regularly to ensure compliance with relevant legal and regulatory requirements, including nonprofit-specific regulations. • Assist in annual audits by providing necessary documentation and responding to audit-related inquiries. • Ensure tax compliance by preparing and reviewing quarterly and annual tax filings in accordance with local, state, and federal regulations. • Contribute to budget creation and financial forecasting to support organizational planning and decision-making. • Monitor cash flow and track expenses and assets to maintain financial stability and accurate categorization. Requirements • Bachelor’s degree in accounting or a related field is preferred. • Proven experience in nonprofit financial management is required. • Familiarity with grants management and financial recording is strongly preferred. • Proficiency in bookkeeping and financial software, including QuickBooks. • Expertise in handling accounts payable (AP) and accounts receivable (AR). • Strong skills in bank reconciliations and payroll processing. • Knowledge of tax compliance and audit procedures. • Exceptional attention to detail and organizational skills.
