Our Commercial Operations Division is excited to welcome a Sr. Underwriter to join the Major Accounts Underwriting team!  This position requires 5 or more years of financial, actuarial, and/or stop loss experience.  The ideal candidate is a proactive self-starter with a quantitative degree and background in pricing prospects and renewals. Experience with ASO pricing is required. Mature analytical abilities and a deep understanding of the science of underwriting paired with the ability to apply it creatively are essential.  We are searching for someone who is able to manage an assigned book of Major Accounts, pitch products and offer solutions to sales and account executives, as well as with groups and brokers.  The Sr. Underwriter may serve as a Subject Matter Expert on certain topics.  This remote position offers a Monday-Friday work schedule.  If this opportunity interests you, we encourage you to apply!

Job Responsibilities

Collecting information, contacting sales, account managers, agents, and other parties as appropriate to clarify and correct inconsistent, incorrect or missing group health application information.Perform risk appraisals to include analyzing group experience and enrollment for group health insurance prospect and renewals and associated underwriting documentation for large, or high risk groups; evaluating and classifying group risk to determine acceptability, coverage and pricing.Calculating and negotiating rates and premium charges for group health insurance using approved formulas and tablesCorresponding with sales, account managers, agents, and other parties regarding group health insurance products, features, and pricing. Assisting the on-going maintenance and enforcement of underwriting guidelines as well as providing underwriting expertise to projects in support of sales, marketing, membership and billing, legal or actuarial organizations.Designing risk profile for group insurance products; guiding less experienced underwriters on the processes of risk identification and classification.

Job Qualifications

Education

Bachelors Degree in Mathematics, Finance, Accounting or related field or equivalent work experience.

Experience

5 Years - Stop Loss UWg, Financial UWg, Actuarial, or Fin. Mgmt. experience

Skills\Certifications

Excellent oral and written communication skillsProficient in Microsoft Office (Outlook, Word, Excel and PowerPoint)Strong analytical, planning, interpersonal, organizational and research skills with the ability to handle multiple projectsAbility to work independently with minimal supervision or function in a team environment sharing responsibility, roles and accountability.Strong negotiation, presentation, and facilitation skillsHave a knowledge of contracts, products, networks, underwriting, billing, claims processing, and broker distribution system.
