Manufacturing Systems Engineers (MSE) engage with low manufacturing readiness level (MRL) programs in Business Divisions and Emerging Capabilities Development (ECD) to accelerate affordable maturation of new sensor technologies from demonstration to LRIP. MSEs drive commonality of hardware, producibility vs innovation trades and risk management through tools such as Manufacturing Readiness Assessments (MRA) and Manufacturing Plans (MPs).
MSEs must understand all aspects of a sensor’s fabrication, assembly and test (internally and/or externally) in context of other programs to identify product line alignment (re-use) and mitigate resource limitations. MSEs also influence Operations investments such as internal research and development (IRAD), Manufacturing Technology Activity (MTA), and capital in support of developing discriminating technologies including additive manufacturing, advanced packaging, automation/robotics, electro/optics, data analytics, and digital fabric.

•Interface with Business Divisions and ECD to stay current with new concept and proposal programs
•Serve as operations technical interface for ECD and Business Division integrated program teams (IPT) for low MRL programs
•Develop Manufacturing Readiness Assessments (MRAs) and MPs per AS6500
•Support IPTs in make/buy/dual sourcing decisions
•Develop partnership and effective relationships with OPM counterparts in other to stay synchronized with proposal phases and MRL transitions.
•Participate in producibility reviews for new product designs
•Recommend design improvements to produce lower cost/higher performing products
•Understand and translate state-of-the-art process capabilities and guidelines for product designers by interfacing with manufacturing subject matter experts
•Develop discriminating IRAD and capital investment plans with the Manufacturing Strategy and Integration team
The area of work for this position concentrates in the Systems Engineering aspects to drive early collaboration between Manufacturing, Global Supply Chain, and Engineering organizations to streamline strategies for the Operations (Manufacturing and Test) organization to enable successful product launches into Manufacturing.
Northrop Grumman Information Systems is seeking a dedicated Sr Principal Manufacturing Systems Engineer to join our team in San Diego, CA. This position is full-time onsite.
Ideal Candidate:
•Must be able to understand complex technical issues and frame them in context for program management and functional Vice Presidents alike
•Excellent organizational and communication skills
•Able to communicate effectively and clearly present technical approaches and findings at customer and executive levels
•Self-motivated and passionate about next generation CNI sensor and chassis technology
•Able to apply extensive technical manufacturing expertise in the advancement of next generation RF, digital sensors and how they integration in a chassis
•Able to find technical adjacencies across different CNI sensor product applications. These adjacencies will be paired with IRAD, capital, and MTA planning to ensure common processes are used to optimize NGMS resources.
Basic Qualifications for the Sr Principal Manufacturing Systems Engineer :
- Bachelor's degree or higher in engineering, science or other relevant STEM area plus 8 years of relevant experience (or 6 years with a Master's or 4 years with a PhD)
- Experience with conducting MRL assessments and developing MPs.
- Experience with developing basis of estimate for capture/proposals.
-Fluency in MS Office software applications.
-US Secret Security Clearance
-US Citizenship is required
-Experience leading or managing projects with test and manufacturing considerations.
-Manufacturing Engineering and Producibility experience
-Experience leading or managing projects and/or people
Preferred Qualifications for the Sr Principal Manufacturing Systems Engineer:
-Masters in Systems Engineering experience is a plus.
-Experience with processes and materials used to make RF sensors including semiconductor technology, microelectronic assembly, surface mount technology and materials for RF performance
-5 or more years of manufacturing process engineering related experience
-2 or more years of program experience (operations program manager, program management)
-Experience with process development and control methodologies such as Design of Experiment (DOE), Statistical Process Control (SPC), and 6 sigma concepts
-Experience with Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerancing (GD&T) and experience with automated equipment
-Experience with factory costing methodology and process yield metrics
-Experience with concepts related to typical manufacturing systems such as: MRP, kitting, batch sizing, configuration control and work flow routings

Primary Level Salary Range: $137,400.00 - $206,000.00The above salary range represents a general guideline; however, Northrop Grumman considers a number of factors when determining base salary offers such as the scope and responsibilities of the position and the candidate's experience, education, skills and current market conditions.Depending on the position, employees may be eligible for overtime, shift differential, and a discretionary bonus in addition to base pay. Annual bonuses are designed to reward individual contributions as well as allow employees to share in company results. Employees in Vice President or Director positions may be eligible for Long Term Incentives.
