Job Description
The Senior Manager, Sustainability will play a pivotal role in advancing Gilead's environmental stewardship by leading our climate strategy and disclosure efforts. This position will be responsible for developing and implementing a comprehensive climate risk and resilience framework, overseeing sustainability reporting, managing critical documentation, and analyzing data to drive strategic decisions. This role complements our existing sustainability team by providing specialized expertise to enhance our resilience to climate change and ensure transparent communication with our stakeholders.
Essential Duties and Job Functions
Climate Risk Planning: Lead the management of physical and transitional climate-related risks and opportunities across Gilead's operations, value chain, and portfolio in alignment with frameworks such as the Task Force on Climate-related Financial Disclosures (TCFD).
Climate Adaptation and Resilience Strategy: Develop, champion, and implement a long-term climate adaptation and resilience strategy to mitigate identified risks, protect our assets and supply chain, and support the communities we serve.
Sustainability Reporting: Support the end-to-end process for corporate sustainability reporting. Ensure adherence with evolving global disclosure standards and regulations (e.g., CSRD, California climate laws, CDP).
Document Control and Management: Enhance and maintain a centralized, auditable system for managing all sustainability-related policies, procedures, data, and compliance documentation. Ensure data integrity and version control for all reporting.
Sustainability Data Analysis: Perform in-depth analysis of climate and sustainability data to generate actionable insights, track performance against targets, identify emerging trends, and inform strategic planning. Prepare and present findings to relevant stakeholders.
Cross-Functional Collaboration: Serve as a subject matter expert on climate risk, partnering closely with teams including Enterprise Risk Management, Finance, Legal, and, Supply Chain to embed climate considerations into business strategy and processes.
Knowledge, Experience and Skills Essential:
8+ years of relevant experience with a bachelor’s degree in environmental science, Sustainability, Climate Science, Engineering, Business, or a related field OR 6+ years of relevant experience with a Master’s degree.
Deep expertise in climate risk assessment methodologies and frameworks (TCFD strongly preferred).
Demonstrated experience managing corporate sustainability reporting and a strong understanding of leading ESG standards (e.g., GRI, SASB, IFRS Sustainability Disclosure Standards).
Proven ability in data analysis and translating complex information into clear, actionable insights for a business audience.
Experience designing and implementing document control and information management systems.
Excellent project management skills with the ability to lead complex projects, manage multiple priorities, and deliver results in a dynamic environment.
Exceptional written and verbal communication skills, with experience presenting to and influencing senior management.
Desirable Experience:
Experience in the pharmaceutical or biotechnology industry is a plus.
Familiarity with climate science and modeling.
Strong business acumen and the ability to connect sustainability initiatives to business value.
Proven ability to work collaboratively and effectively in a highly matrixed organization.
