The Fund Accounting Team function within Schwab Asset Management (SAM) is primarily responsible for oversight of the third-party fund accounting service provider with respect to the proprietary mutual funds, exchange-traded funds (ETFs), and bank collective trust funds. The Fund Accounting Team is looking for a Senior Manager to support their growing team. This individual is responsible for ensuring the fund accountant records transactions in accordance with the Funds' accounting policies, ensures accuracy of the fund Net Asset Values (NAVs) and oversees fund distributions. As a Senior Manager you will be responsible for working with members of the fund accounting team and will work with other fund administration departments on an ongoing basis.
This role requires partnering with all functional areas within SAM including, but not limited to portfolio managers, product managers, internal tax professionals, trade operations, independent auditor, and financial reporting representatives. This person will ensure that internal controls are documented, implemented, and appropriately monitored. A key function of this role is the continued analysis of workflow and recommendation for process improvements. This role includes responsibility to stay abreast of regulatory changes and implement those changes on a go forward basis. The Senior Manager will also be an active participant in new product initiatives and current product business changes. This is an individual contributor role.
Primary responsibilities include:
End of day signoff on vendor calculated NAVs including research and explanations outside of tolerance thresholdsNext day review of daily calculated NAVs including research and explanationsOversight of third-party fund accounting service providerAnalyze fund distributions and work with team members to prepare recommendationsPrepare monthly management reports, governance committee reports and quarterly fund board reports, as well as other periodic and ad-hoc requestsCommunicate with the external fund accountant regarding accounting policy updatesProactively support all business partners by providing timely and accurate reportingOversee production of board and governance committee reportingPartnership with all functional areas within SAM Fund Administration to coordinate and initiate Accounting Policy interim reviews/updates as well as to review and implement industry changes/trendsEffectively communicate with all parties across the organization including portfolio managers and senior leaders What you have Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, Economics, or related field5+ years of accounting experienceSeven to Ten (7 to 10) years’ experience in administering mutual funds, ETFs, hedge funds or collective funds, with expertise in fund accountingStrong working knowledge of calculation of NAV per shareStrong project management, vendor management and research skillsProven verbal communication and presentation skills and ability to interact with all levels in the SAM Fund Administration teams and with other external/internal partnersProven organizational skills, attention to detail, and the ability to meet tight deadlinesDrive and skillset to identify areas of opportunity and implement effective change and automationProactively support business partners and overall company goals through collaboration and effective networkingIn addition to the salary range, this role is also eligible for bonus or incentive opportunities.
