Schwab is recruiting an outcome driven, results-oriented, well organized, strategic data technology leader who shares our passion for technology, innovation, people, and excellence. We are in the midst of re-architecting and rebuilding WAM Engineering core central data platform. The technical engineering leader (people leader) will be a hands-on lead engineer with technical/business acumen and leadership experience that excels in a structured, dynamic, fast-moving environment and is passionate about developing high quality, high performance, and scalable solutions. The candidate will lead and work aside a team of seasoned engineers whose main objective is to maintain all aspects of the system health and ensure the on-time, quality delivery of software releases.

This position will be part of the Research Analytics Data and Reporting (RADR) Technology team within the Schwab Data organization focusing on centralizing core Schwab asset management data and building data products to support SAM’s operational and business reporting needs leveraging cloud native data platform. This is a role for someone who is passionate and excited to learn/understand the business, build a solid team, focus on basics and streamline existing system to make is stable, and build a future state data platform that is going to be pivotal to drive client-centricity, reducing time to market, scale & increasing efficiency. Responsabilities:

Lead a high-performing team of data engineers and leads supporting data pipelines, reporting, and exchange across key business domainsProvide strategic, technical and project leadership to data pipeline developmentDrive end-to-end ownership of the development lifecycle including intake, estimation, design, build, test, and supportCollaborate with cross-functional stakeholders (Product Owners, Data Architects, QA, and Infrastructure teams) to define priorities and resource allocationImplement best practices in SDLC, Agile/Scrum methodologies, and DevOps automation in a data engineering contextGovern platform health, technical debt, and capacity planning while ensuring adherence to compliance, audit, and information security guidelinesManage performance, mentoring, and upskilling of talent across onshore and offshore teamsPromote a culture of operational excellence, observability, and data quality through proactive monitoring and metricsHands-on development and mentoring for all members of the team to ensure team and project successDrive outcomes and team performance, collaborate with all to achieve results, and think strategicallyEffectively navigate cross-functional communication to ensure alignment between teams and within one teamCultivate a culture of open feedback that promotes accountability for getting better togetherCollaborate with other shared functions to support application support and automation for deploymentsCreate and maintain artifacts for production support and deployment processes and ensure smooth hand off to support teamsPrior experience working with vendor resources and driving delivery and collaboration for maximum outputTranslate technical concepts for both technical and non-technical audiences to ensure effective communication What you have

Required Qualifications:

A university degree from a well-respected academic institution; advanced degrees in Information management, Computer Science, Business Administration and/or other professional certificationsMinimum 12+ years of experience in data engineering with a proven track record of leading and managing teams of 5-15 peopleMinimum 12+ years of experience working in financial services with a strong understanding of investment management dataAbility to read and understand code written in languages used by the team (e.g., Python, Java, SQL) for effective communication and collaborationExcellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to translate technical concepts for both technical and non-technical audiences

Preferred Qualifications:

CFA certificationSubject matter expertise with the Financial Asset Management Industry domains along with experience with external vendor products Including Eagle Data Management, Rimes, BlackRock Aladdin, State Street, Morningstar, and BloombergProven experience working with a Data Management team and familiar with concepts like security master, product master, and pricing master dataStrong candidates will have knowledge of the Snowflake ecosystem, including internal and external stages, Snowpark, Streamlit, and data architectures built for SnowflakeProficient in data engineering concepts including data modeling, data warehousing, data orchestration (e.g., Airflow), monitoring/observability, and data governanceStrong candidates will have knowledge and experience working with data pipelines, data warehousing, data storage solutions (on-premises and cloud-based), and familiarity with data technologies (e.g., Python, SQL, Java, Informatica, C#)Strong candidates will have knowledge and experience working with webservices and/or API specifications and ability to work with API Engineers in translating requirements into secure, scalable, resilient, and performant solutions

 

In addition to the salary range, this role is also eligible for bonus or incentive opportunities.
