**The Role**
The **Senior Lead Data Engineer** will serve as a strategic technical leader within Lumen’s Public Sector Business Intelligence and AI organization. This role is responsible for architecting and delivering scalable, secure, and high-performance data infrastructure across cloud platforms. The ideal candidate will focus on building robust databases, data pipelines, and AI-integrated solutions using tools like **Databricks** , **Copilot Studio** , and **Python** . This individual combines deep technical expertise with a product-oriented mindset and a passion for data integrity, automation, and performance.
**The Main Responsibilities**
+ **Architect and implement enterprise-grade data** pipelines using Databricks, Azure Data Factory, and orchestration frameworks.
+ **Design and optimize** relational and non-relational databases (SQL, NoSQL) for analytics, reporting, and AI workloads.
+ **Lead integration of core systems** (Salesforce, SAP, etc.) using APIs and automated data flows to enable unified data access.
+ **Develop and deploy AI-powered tools** via Copilot Studio, including conversational agents and workflow automation.
+ **Write and review Python code** for data transformation, automation, and integration, ensuring adherence to best practices.
+ **Establish and enforce data governance standards** , including schema management, access controls, and lineage tracking.
+ **Monitor and optimize pipeline** performance, ensuring reliability, scalability, and cost-efficiency across environments.
+ **Collaborate with BI analysts, data scientists, and business stakeholders** to deliver actionable insights and support advanced analytics.
+ Document architecture decisions, data models, and integration patterns for transparency and audit readiness.
+ **Ensure compliance with public sector security standards** , including FedRAMP and NIST.
**What We Look For in a Candidate**
+ Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering, Information Systems, or related field.
+ 7+ years of experience in data engineering, including 3+ years in a leadership or architecture role.
+ Proven expertise in Databricks, Apache Spark, and SQL.
+ Advanced proficiency in Python and data engineering libraries (e.g., Pandas, PySpark).
+ Experience with Copilot Studio, Power Platform connectors, and conversational AI workflows.
+ Strong background in integrating enterprise systems like Salesforce and SAP.
+ Deep understanding of data pipeline lifecycle management, including CI/CD, testing, and monitoring.
+ Knowledge of public sector compliance frameworks (FedRAMP, NIST).
+ Excellent communication and stakeholder engagement skills

**Compensation**
This information reflects the anticipated base salary range for this position based on current national data. Minimums and maximums may vary based on location. Individual pay is based on skills, experience and other relevant factors.
Location Based Pay Ranges
$103,711 - $138,281 in these states: AL AR AZ FL GA IA ID IN KS KY LA ME MO MS MT ND NE NM OH OK PA SC SD TN UT VT WI WV WY
$108,896 - $145,195 in these states: CO HI MI MN NC NH NV OR RI
$114,082 - $152,109 in these states: AK CA CT DC DE IL MA MD NJ NY TX VA WA
