Sr Human Factors Engineer (Hybrid)

Position Overview:
We have an exciting opportunity for an exceptional Senior Human Factors Engineer to apply his/her human factors expertise to the definition, design, evaluation, and validation of next-generation medical devices and systems. We are seeking an individual with proven human factors leadership and skills in an FDA regulated product development environment. You will be joining a small, dynamic team of human factors engineers to contribute to the design and development of innovative, next-generation medical devices. The ideal candidate should be interested in actively contributing to Insulet’s culture of openness to ideas for improvement and collaboration. As a Senior Human Factors Engineer at Insulet, you will have a chance to make a difference in the safety and comfort of patients and the clinicians who provide therapy to them by contributing to delivering a world-class user experience.

Responsibilities:
• Will author, review, and edit Human Factors engineering documentation related to assigned projects. This includes research protocols, research reports, Human Factors plans, and other design control documentation.
• Will create and conduct formative and summative studies to support medical device design optimization and identify potential use errors.
• Will work cross functionally with the core team to ensure user interface requirements are met, and risk controls pertaining to patient use have been applied and are effective.
• Ensure Insulet’s Human Factors Engineering process is in compliance with FDA recognized guidance and standards including 62366, HE-75, and others.
• Analyze results from formative evaluations and make recommendations for improvements based on Human Factors guidelines and best practices.
• Provide research and design inputs related to human capabilities and product interactions, to inform design, contribute to the verification and the validation of medical devices.
• Participate in the development of product requirements and evaluation of risks related to product use (risk analysis)

Education and Experience:
• Bachelor’s degree in human Factors or related discipline preferred
• Master’s or Ph.D degree in Human Factors or Human Computer Interaction Preferred
• 5+ years of work experience including 3 or more years of relevant Human Factors engineering experience in the medical device industry (can include internship and/or graduate school experience).

Preferred Skills and Competencies:
• Human Factors experience in the medical device industry required.
• Deep understanding of Human Factors FDA standards (HE-75, 62366) related to medical devices.
• Demonstrated experience with user-centered design methods and conducting formative and summative usability evaluations, including facilitation in support of product development.
• Solid understanding of the theories, principles, and data associated with human performance capabilities and limitations (perceptual, cognitive, motor, biomechanical, and anthropometric).
• Ability to self-motivate and self-manage.
• Ability to apply Human Factors principles and methods to the design, definition, evaluation, launch, and use of medical devices.
• Ability to direct and mentor junior staff and contractors.
• Excellent verbal and written technical communication skills.
• Ability to plan and conduct effective meetings and presentations.
• Ability to collaborate effectively in multi-disciplinary teams.

Physical Requirements:
• Willingness to travel as needed (approximately 25% of the time).

NOTE: This position is eligible for hybrid working arrangements (requires on-site work from an Insulet office at least 1x/week; may work remotely other days). #LI-Hybrid 

Additional Information:

The US base salary range for this full-time position is $126,450.00 - $189,675.00. Our salary ranges are determined by role, level, and location. The range displayed on each job posting reflects the minimum and maximum target for new hire salaries for the position in the primary work location in the US. Within the range, individual pay is determined by work location and additional factors, including job-related skills, experience, and relevant education or training.
