**The Role**
The Senior Director of Long Range Planning is a strategic leadership role responsible for designing and executing the company’s multi-year commercial growth strategy. Overseeing a small team (3 direct reports), this leader drives long-term planning (1–3 year and 3–5 year horizons) to achieve sales, revenue, and growth objectives in line with the company’s vision. The role requires a blend of financial acumen, strategic insight, and leadership skills to develop actionable plans that boost future growth, including innovative sales strategies, customer success initiatives, and deep understanding of business models that propel growth. The Senior Director will collaborate closely with cross-functional teams (Corporate Strategy, Sales, Marketing, Finance, Customer Success, etc.) to ensure the long-range plan is integrated across the organization and positions the company as a best-in-class commercial organization.
**The Main Responsibilities**
+ **Long-Range Planning** : Own and lead the long-range planning process, developing comprehensive 1,3,5 year strategic roadmaps that outline growth targets, investment priorities, and key initiatives. This includes scenario planning and forecasting to ensure the organization meets its long-term objectives.
+ **Strategic Goal Setting** : Work closely with executive leadership to define and refine the company’s long-term commercial goals and KPIs, aligning on revenue, market share, and customer growth targets
+ Work closely with the LRP & Planning teams to stablish the short- and long-term milestones needed to achieve these goals.
+ **Market & Competitive Analysis:** Continuously analyze industry trends, market dynamics, and competitive moves to uncover opportunities and risks
+ Translate market research and customer insights into strategic recommendations that will keep the company ahead of the competition
+ **Develop Strategic Initiatives:** Identify, evaluate, and prioritize strategic initiatives that drive long-term growth. This could include new go-to-market strategies, commercial programs for sales and customer success, or innovative consumption models for products/services. Recommend ways the company can improve performance and capture new revenue opportunities
+ **Strategic Plan Execution: ** Work with cross-functional teams to turn long-range plans into actionable programs. Partner with Sales, Marketing, Product, Finance, and Customer Success leaders to implement initiatives and ensure each functional area is aligned to the strategic roadmap
+ Monitor execution progress and coordinate course-corrections as needed to meet strategic objectives.
+ **Financial Planning & Analysis:** Oversee the financial modeling and analysis that underpins long-range plans. Ensure that growth strategies are supported by solid data – e.g., revenue forecasts, ROI analyses, and resource/budget plans
+ Regularly review financial performance against the long-term plan, and adjust strategies to stay on track with financial targets.
+ **Performance Tracking:** Define the growth metrics and leading indicators to track the success of long-range initiatives in partnership with Commercial Excellence and Sales Operations(sales pipeline growth, customer acquisition/retention rates, revenue uplift from new programs, etc.). Establish methods to collect and track data, and review performance dashboards to evaluate progress towards strategic goal
+ **Executive Advisement: ** Act as a strategic advisor to senior leadership. Prepare and present long-range strategy updates, business cases, and recommendations to the leadership team in AGT and at Lumen. Provide insight on strategic options and trade-offs, and guide data-driven decision-making at the leadership level
+ **Team Leadership:** Manage and mentor a team of 3 direct-report strategy professionals. Set clear objectives for the team, oversee their project portfolios, and support their professional development. Foster a high-performance culture focused on critical thinking, innovation, and collaboration as the team tackles complex strategic questions.
+ **Continuous Improvement:** Champion a forward-looking, “future ready” mindset within the organization. Keep informed of emerging best practices in commercial strategy and long-range planning. Drive continuous improvement of the planning process and strategic capabilities – for example, introducing new planning tools, refining forecasting techniques, or enhancing cross-functional strategic workshops – to strengthen the company’s strategy development over time.
**What We Look For in a Candidate**
+ Education: Bachelor’s degree in Business, Finance, Economics or related field required; MBA or other advanced degree strongly preferred
+ Strong academic foundation in strategy, finance, and analysis.
+ Experience: 10+ years of relevant experience in strategic planning, corporate strategy, or management consulting required
+ This should include a track record of driving growth strategies and working on complex business initiatives. Experience at a top-tier consulting firm or in a corporate strategy team is a plus
+ Strategic & Financial Acumen: Exceptional strategic thinking and financial acumen. Demonstrated proficiency in long-range planning, financial modeling, and business analysis
+ Able to interpret financial data and market research to make informed strategic decisions.
+ Growth Metrics & Analytics: Deep understanding of growth metrics and how to influence them (e.g. revenue drivers, customer acquisition costs, lifetime value). Data-driven mindset with ability to develop and track KPIs that gauge long-term commercial performance
+ Consultancy Background: Background in a consultancy or business planning role is highly beneficial. Proven ability to bring a consultative approach – using structured problem-solving, insight generation, and best practices – to an in-house strategic planning functions
+ Leadership & Collaboration: Strong leadership skills with experience managing teams or large-scale projects. Capable of leading cross-functional groups and influencing stakeholders at all levels to drive alignment with strategic initiatives
+ Adept at building collaborative relationships and fostering teamwork in a matrix organization.
+ Communication Skills: Excellent communication and presentation skills. Able to articulate complex strategies in simple terms and persuasively communicate recommendations to senior executives. Experience preparing executive-ready documents and delivering high-impact presentations is required
+ Innovation & Industry Knowledge: Forward-thinking mindset with curiosity about emerging trends in the industry and in commerce. Brings innovative ideas for improving sales models, customer engagement, and competitive positioning. Knowledge of modern go-to-market strategies (e.g. subscription/consumption models, digital sales enablement) and an eye toward what world-class commercial organizations are doing to succeed in the future.
+ Results Orientation: Highly driven and outcome-focused. Comfortable working in a fast-paced environment with evolving priorities. Strong project management skills and the ability to execute strategic plans, ensuring initiatives are delivered and goals are met.
**Compensation**
This information reflects the anticipated base salary range for this position based on current national data. Minimums and maximums may vary based on location. Individual pay is based on skills, experience and other relevant factors.
Location Based Pay Ranges:
$171,447 - $228,596 in these states: AL, AR, AZ, FL, GA, IA, ID, IN, KS, KY, LA, ME, MO, MS, MT, ND, NE, NM, OH, OK, PA, SC, SD, TN, UT, VT, WI, WV, and WY.
$180,020 - $240,026 in these states: CO, HI, MI, MN, NC, NH, NV, OR, and RI.
$188,592 - $251,456 in these states: AK, CA, CT, DC, DE, IL, MA, MD, NJ, NY, TX, VA, and WA.
