Sr Director, Measurement Strategy

Comcast NBCUniversal has announced its intent to create a new publicly traded company ('Versant') comprised of most of NBCUniversal's cable television networks, including USA Network, CNBC, MSNBC, Oxygen, E!, SYFY and Golf Channel along with complementary digital assets Fandango, Rotten Tomatoes, GolfNow, GolfPass, and SportsEngine. The well-capitalized company will have significant scale as a pure-play set of assets anchored by leading news, sports and entertainment content. The spin-off is expected to be completed during 2025. The Senior Director of Measurement Strategy plays a critical role at Versant, helping the company establish a total-market analytics capability that will yield the clearest and most comprehensive consumer understanding, the most powerful positioning of Versant assets in the marketplace, and the best business forecasting and decision-making. As content and consumption fragments across more platforms with varying business models, sustaining measurement consistency, completeness and value requires more focus and strategic planning. This person collaborates closely with senior staff in analytics and across the company – in content, distribution, sales and strategy – helping to align external data with business needs and objectives. This role is ideal for a candidate who loves data and methodology, has a strong interest in business strategy, and brings a consultant mindset. Responsibilities: + Act as a Versant company expert on the various modes of measurement and reporting for all forms of consumption, distribution, and monetization, particularly from 2nd and 3rd parties. Provide the guidance required to align incoming data from all sources with business decision-maker needs. + Closely collaborate with and advise Versant distribution, content, digital and ad sales leadership around cross media measurement to ensure we’re demonstrating the value of our premium assets across all platforms, while generating valuable insights that provide 360-degree view of our consumers and content performance. + Spearhead Versant’s measurement and currency innovation efforts and lead the evaluation of current and emerging content measurement solutions in the marketplace. + Advise the Versant analytics and distribution teams with respect to measurement and reporting deal terms that will enable the most insight-rich and valuable integrated view of our content on all platforms, and via all modes of business and access (linear, on-demand, subscription, ad-based, transactional, etc). + Establish requirements and guidelines for deal terms, and tracking of those terms and deliverables to highlight opportunities for improvement. + Develop and maintain comprehensive, clear documentation on partner-specific data processes, methodologies, and output specifications, serving as a knowledge resource for the team. + Evaluate the data market and advise the Data, Insights and Strategic Analytics team on the measurement, reporting and currencies required to support the most accurate total outlook for consumer time spent and trends across screens, free and subscription video, and digital behaviors. + Represent Versant in the measurement community, advocating for innovation and measurement outcomes that will accurately capture and highlight Versant’s competitive results, differentiate our brands, and enable the best decision-making. + Advise analytics leadership on the strengths and weaknesses of 3rd party measurement and currency options. Play a key role managing, evolving and optimizing major existing measurement relationships, such as those with Nielsen and ComScore. + Perform the analyses necessary to evaluate measurement options in the marketplace, and the analyses required to assess the impact of changes to incumbent providers. + 8+ years' hands-on experience with media measurement including, but not limited to linear and digital content measurement, audience measurement, and video purchaser and subscriber behaviors. + 5+ years' experience in cross-platform and cross-media integrated measurement and reporting, including measurement innovation and involvement in current and emerging cross media currency development for content sales and/or advertising. + Significant hands-on experience with direct streaming 2nd party measurement/reporting from SVOD, AVOD and FAST sources such as Netflix, Amazon Video, YouTube, Tubi, Pluto and Xumo. Experience with third-party analytics platforms that process and integrate that data, like Amagi and Whip Media, is a plus. + Significant hands-on experience with traditional media datasets and currencies such as Nielsen, and ComScore. Exposure to measurement such as iSpot, Samba and VideoAmp a significant plus. + Experience managing 3rd party measurement vendors through the full partnership lifecycle, from contract negotiation to onboarding and roll-out. + A bachelor’s or advanced degree in statistics, data science, computer science, economics, or a related quantitative social science field is preferred. + Strong proficiency in Microsoft Excel and PowerPoint. SQL proficiency a significant plus. Desired Characteristics: + Understand linear and on-demand media, subscription and advertising ecosystems, how they are evolving, and their business challenges. + Natural enthusiasm for and deep interest in the business of TV and video, news, sports, entertainment and digital leisure. + In-depth knowledge and understanding of media measurement, forecasting, and planning, especially TV, digital media, streaming and subscription. + Deep and practical understanding of the underlying dimensions of consumer behaviors and modes of content access and monetization that business decision-makers analyze to forecast and optimize results and revenue. + Comfortable and clear communicator who thrives in a collaborative, matrixed business culture across business, analytics, data and technology functions. Demonstrated ability to persuade and influence. + Strong ability to represent technical and methodological concepts to non-technical stakeholders. Additional Information: + Hybrid: This position has been designated as hybrid, generally contributing from the office a minimum of three days per week.
