**Sr Data Scientist**
In this role, you will deliver robust data models based on advanced imaging and similar analytic methods for inventory assessment and upgrades for Bayer seed products. You’ll define growth strategy for imaging data models, including comparative assessments of multiple techniques. You will also define and execute strategy for new modeling methods, collaborations, and close integration with field and quality testing data return.
This position reports to the Head of Imaging and Detection.
**YOUR TASKS AND RESPONSIBILITIES**
The primary responsibilities of this role are to:
+ Delivering robust models from complex imaging and similar analytical data for applications in seed inventory measurement, seed quality, and production.
+ Deliver field-deployable and supportable data models with an emphasis on data fusion from many inputs.
+ Expertise in statistical, algorithmic, data mining and visualization methods.
+ Define modeling approaches for new problems, with an emphasis on establishing standardized methods for accelerating results.
+ Define methods for comparative assessment of multiple modeling techniques to assess tradeoffs among accuracy, throughput, and field-support and upgrade considerations.
+ Mentor and encourage junior employees working in the Imaging and Data Modeling spaces to accelerate development of capabilities.
+ Strategize with engineering resources in the team to define imaging and software strategies that best integrate with modeling approaches.
+ Collaborate with stakeholders to translate non-technical requirements and uncover new value-adding opportunities.
+ Establish internal and external collaborations to enable new modeling approaches and accelerate development cycles.
+ Strategize comprehensive data modeling approaches focused on integration of imaging data with field and quality metrics.
+ Deliver reports and regular updates to stakeholders and leadership.
+ Practice strong behaviors for thorough documentation and IP capture.
**WHO YOU ARE**
Bayer seeks an incumbent who possesses the following:
Required:
+ Bachelor’s degree in relevant technical field with 8+ yrs relevant professional experience OR Master’s degree in relevant technical field with 6+ yrs relevant professional experience OR PhD in relevant technical field with 3+ yrs relevant professional experience.
+ Experience with data modeling based on imaging inputs and experience with data fusion from multiple imaging and related analytical techniques.
+ Experience with modeling approaches that address significant varietal variation and ambiguity in response variables common to biological sciences.
+ Expert level applied statistical skills and hypothesis testing
+ Expert level experience in one or more of the following areas: Advanced
+ Statistical data analysis, machine learning techniques, MCMC, neural networks, Ensemble methods, Gaussian processes and related topics
+ Strong demonstrated proficiency building data models using programming languages such as R, Python, Matlab, and associated software tools.
+ Demonstrated ability and desire to accelerate data fusion methods for integration of multiple imaging techniques.
+ Demonstrated history of deployed and supported data models in-field.
Preferred:
+ Experience in seed quality and production applications desired.
+ Experience with supervision and mentoring technical resources desired.
+ Strong proficiency in technical documentation, IP capture, and SOP creation
+ Attention to detail and accuracy
+ Clear and confident communication
Employees can expect to be paid a salary of approximately $120-180k. Additional compensation may include a bonus or incentive program (if relevant). Additional benefits include health care, vision, dental, retirement, PTO, sick leave, etc.. This salary (or salary range) is merely an estimate and may vary based on an applicant’s location, market data/ranges, an applicant’s skills and prior relevant experience, certain degrees and certifications, and other relevant factors.
