Sr Computer Operator

Join American National as a Senior Computer Operator at our Data Center in League City, TX!

Are you ready to take your career to the next level? We are looking for a dedicated Senior Computer Operator to join our team and work with a variety of computing environments, including mainframe, iSeries, servers, and peripherals. In this role, you will perform advanced operator and production control functions, troubleshoot and resolve issues, and support our critical infrastructure systems.

 

What You’ll Do:

Execute advanced operator functions across all production computing environments, including scheduling tasks. Collaborate with multiple teams and vendors to analyze, troubleshoot, and resolve production issues. Perform IPLs and server reboots, ensuring smooth operations. Maintain accurate and up-to-date documentation and procedures. Recommend and implement improvements to operations and scheduling processes. Mentor junior personnel and serve as a second-level responder for escalated issues. Log and document errors, following established procedures for resolution and escalation. Communicate key events and activities with team members, assisting in training plans. Perform system hardware servicing and monitor Data Center facilities infrastructure. Participate in Disaster Recovery exercises.

 

What You’ll Need:

4-6 years of related experience. College degree in IT or related field preferred. Computer-related certifications preferred. Ability to work rotating shifts, weekends, holidays, and during inclement weather. Excellent communication skills and acute attention to detail. Strong interpersonal relationships and ability to collaborate effectively. Strong planning, organizational, and problem-solving skills. Proficiency in Microsoft Office products.

 

Location: Data Center in League City, TX.

 

Daily Responsibilities:

Monitor critical infrastructure systems during 12.5-hour shifts, ensuring proper functionality and addressing issues promptly. Oversee thousands of batch jobs and server health, taking action on failures and alerts. Act as the service desk and security during after-business hours. Collaborate with systems programmers on upgrades and perform IPLs every weekend. Ensure IMS environments are configured correctly for day/night operations.

 

Skills and Qualifications:

Positive, self-motivated, and able to thrive in a team environment. Willingness to work long hours and shift work, including up to 6 months of nights-only training. Strong written and verbal communication skills. Multiple years of experience in Mainframe, Production Control, and Server support. In-depth knowledge of SDSF/ISPF/TSO concepts, MVS and JES2 commands, IMS and CICS, IPL, Zeke and Zena batch scheduling systems, and server health monitoring.
