This position will be responsible for optimizing operations and maintenance of Southern Company Gas’ existing and future renewable natural gas (RNG) assets, including contract and environmental compliance, to drive performance, maintain reliability, and minimize production costs. The incumbent will be responsible for coordinating with internal (External/Environmental Affairs, Gas Operations, Engineering, Financial Planning & Analysis, Accounting, Billing, Supply Chain, etc.), and external (contract counterparties, third-party vendor/suppliers, etc.) stakeholders to ensure the operational and contractual performance of such assets meets the company’s financial and strategic objectives.
Job Responsibilities:
Establish and track key performance indicators relevant to plant performance and contractual/environmental compliance Lead development of O&M budgets and support development of revenue forecasts and routine/strategic capital plans Track O&M spend to describe variances and perform budget updates Coordinate internal/external resources to optimize plant performance, resolve O&M issues, and maintain reliability Lead and coordinate efforts to ensure revenues are estimated, accrued, and invoiced, and fees (e.g., royalties, lease payments, etc.) are paid, in a timely manner Provide capital project support through development of project rationales and business cases Identify and maintain relationships with key vendors/suppliers and lead/coordinate efforts to establish materials/services contracts, as needed Work with operations staff to coordinate materials/services for planned and unplanned outages Provide oversight and coordinate efforts to ensure compliance with environmental laws, regulations, and permits, including implementing compliance programs for required monitoring, recordkeeping, and reporting Provide documentation to third parties to ensure compliance with state/federal renewable fuels programs Provide documentation to internal partners to support company environmental reporting and disclosures Support relationships and contract negotiations with counterparties
Job Requirements:
Excellent communication skills – oral, written, and interpersonal required Organizational skills, strategic and analytical thinking skills required Experience managing multiple projects and working with multiple internal and external stakeholders simultaneously required Broad understanding of Southern Company operations, systems, policies, and procedures Strategic knowledge of vendor and procurement policies and procedures Working knowledge of accounts payable, budgeting, and financial planning processes and reporting systems Familiar with state/federal renewable fuels programs such as the Renewable Fuel Standard (RFS) and California Low Carbon Fuel Standard (LCFS) Demonstrated technical aptitude, with the ability to understand and apply that aptitude to develop working knowledge biogas upgrading technologies, renewable gas and pipeline operations Ability to understand and manage contracts relevant to renewable gas and energy production/sales such as gas purchase agreements, site leases, off-take agreements, pipeline tariffs, etc. Ability to understand environmental laws and regulations applicable to renewable gas operations (e.g., air/solid waste permits and regulations); working knowledge of landfill regulations a plus Travel potentially up to 25% of the time, including out-of-state
