Job Description
Under the direction of department leadership, the Specimen Processor performs clerical and technical lab duties with accuracy and efficiency, aiming to exceed customer expectations. The role involves executing daily scheduled tasks, taking initiative within the scope of the position, and striving to improve work processes based on laboratory and client needs. This position plays a crucial role in providing lifesaving diagnostic services, aligning with the mission, vision, and values of the organization.
ResponsibilitiesUnderstand and comply with all applicable regulatory and compliance requirements.Support leadership during audits when necessary.Ship, receive, and track packages and specimens while maintaining the integrity of samples.Accurately receive, classify, and process specimens in a timely manner.Inspect specimens and paperwork for accuracy and acceptability.Maintain sample identity and ensure proper handling and storage to prevent loss.Use appropriate systems for accurate data entry functions.Proofread work for content, spelling, accuracy, and format.Prepare samples for laboratory testing as needed.Perform reagent preparation when required.Operate, troubleshoot, and perform routine maintenance and calibration on equipment.Identify and document sample issues or discrepancies and work with clients to resolve them.Respond to telephone calls and email requests with professionalism and courtesy.Research and resolve customer issues promptly.Provide exemplary customer service through written and verbal communication.Organize departmental records as needed.Support the maintenance of reagent and supply inventory.Work weekend and holiday rotations as scheduled.Train others on job tasks as assigned.Maintain all applicable competencies and continuing education credits.Perform duties in accordance with laboratory policy.Comply with all standard operating policies and procedures.Essential SkillsExperience in laboratory, sample preparation, specimen processing, and sample handling.Phlebotomy certification or experience in specimen collection and labeling.Accessioning and packaging skills.Additional Skills & QualificationsHigh School diploma with 6+ months of work experience in production or healthcare.Associate's degree in life science or science adjacent with retail/serving experience.Bachelor's degree in a science adjacent field.Phlebotomy, processing, or healthcare experience is advantageous.Work Environment
The work environment includes a testing lab servicing various regions. The position requires working Monday to Thursday from 8:00 pm to 6:30 am, including rotating holidays. The dress code is scrubs or business casual attire with long pants and closed-toe shoes. Equipment used includes centrifuges, freezers, refrigerators, pH meters, and microscopes. Overtime is not likely, but additional hours may be available if desired. Pay and BenefitsThe pay range for this position is $17.50 - $21.31/hr.
