**HPC-Industrial** , Powered by Clean Harbors, is looking for a **SMS Specialty** **Design Engineer** to join their safety conscious team in **La Porte, TX** ! The **SMS Specialty Design Engineer** provides the engineered blueprints/drawings for manufacturing of ASME compliant fabrications, is responsible for leading technical efforts related to process evaluation and optimization for fabrication of ASME compliant fabrications and provides assistance when required to the shop crew in all fabrication processes.The **SMS Specialty Design Engineer** serves as a representative of **HPC-Industrial** in creating a continuous working relationship with clients/customers.

+ Responsible for the identification, development and implementation of engineer improvement initiatives and best practices for competitive operations and improvement in quality as well as direct cost areas including labor, materials and safety.
+ Train people in best practices and continuous improvement methods in engineer processes as related to new equipment designs.
+ Maintains composure when dealing with coworkers and clients in a fast paced environment
+ Ability to perform work outside of normal operating hours during emergency situations
+ Work closely with multiple service line managers to solve problems, create new designs, and improve processes and procedures
+ Use troubleshooting and continuous improvement techniques to facilitate manufacturing improvements including but not limited to cost, delivery, and safety
+ Identify and develop partnerships with key suppliers for engineer outsourcing as needed.
+ Develop business cases for new engineer projects.
+ Ensures follow-up on initiatives and programs are completed and realized gains are maintained. This includes on-going engineer reviews and scheduling of reviews with all vested parties to make sure projects are implemented and savings maintained.
+ Work closely with Operations on production capacity analysis (i.e. understand how proposed projects impact existing engineer and recommend capacity improvements and/or expansion needs and requirements).
+ Responsible for fixture design (e.g. weld fixtures, trim fixtures and check fixtures) – this includes both managing outside contractors Design and qualifications and SolidWorks or ProE design work.
+ Maintains staff by recruiting, selecting, orienting, and training employees; developing personal growth opportunities.
+ Champions, administers, enforces and oversees the Company’s EH&S program at the assigned facility. This includes communicating all safety information from the company and ensuring that weekly safety meetings are conducted.
+ Completes engineer plan by scheduling and assigning personnel; accomplishing work results; establishing priorities; monitoring progress; revising schedules; resolving problems; reporting results of the processing flow on shift production summaries.
+ Supports and maintains ISO 9001-2008 requirements.
+ Maintains quality service by establishing and enforcing organization standards.
+ Ensures operation of engineer by calling for repairs; evaluating new equipment and techniques.
+ Maintains safe and clean work environment by educating and directing personnel on the use of all control points, equipment, and resources; maintaining compliance with established policies and procedures.
+ Resolves personnel problems by analyzing data; investigating issues; identifying solutions; recommending action.
+ Interacts with Customers, Corporate and Manufacturing personnel to resolve safety, quality and through-put concerns. (Both internal & external customers)
+ Demonstrates concern for meeting internal and external customers' needs in a manner that provides satisfaction for the customer within the resources that can be made available
+ Interacts daily with personnel and customers. Uses appropriate interpersonal styles and communication methods to develop effective partnerships to meet mutual goals and objectives.
+ Demonstrates strong ability to analyze data, evaluate situations and identify problems or opportunities, including likely causes.
+ Meets customer requirements and satisfaction while ensuring the Company’s goals and standards are met
+ Develops factual, logical courses of action, considering resources, constraints and organizational value ensuring parts are produced in a safe, reliable and efficient manner within established timelines and in compliance with both company and customer quality and cost standards.
+ Other duties as assigned.
**What does it take to work for HPC-Industrial?**
+ 5 years of engineering design experience in a manufacturing environment (ASME and API coded clamp as well as fitting fabrication including welding) using continuous improvement.
+ Prior experience in the engineering of pressure vessels is a plus.
+ Working knowledge of welding procedures and certifications is preferred.
+ ISO 9001 experience preferred
+ Strong computer skills with use of MS Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint) and Outlook. As well as the selected engineering software.
+ Strong SolidWorks or comparable CAD software skills
+ Experience with 3D (laser) scanners and scanning software is preferred
+ Strong understanding of engineering principles relating to pressure vessels, piping, and piping components
+ Strong attention to detail
+ Strong reading comprehension and document writing skills
