Kumba Iron Ore
We produce high-grade iron ore, the key component in steel widely used in construction and manufacturing across the world. Our activities include all aspects – exploration; mining; processing and blending; shipping; marketing and selling. In South Africa, we have mining operations in the Northern Cape province, as well as a head office in Gauteng, and a port operation in Saldanha Bay, Western Cape.
Job DescriptionAs Specialist Performance Management you will provide services as required and your responsibilities will include but not limited to:
Safety and Health
Act as a role model and reinforce a workplace culture where safety and health are paramount.Encourage reporting of unsafe behaviour without fear of reprisal.Embed critical controls into daily work practices.Implement safety and health systems within the work area.Engage in physical safety checks, interventions, and coaching.Report deficiencies and implement plans to address deficiencies.Performance and Delivery
Utilise advanced financial analysis techniques to draw insights and trends from operational and financial data.Provide comprehensive performance analysis and reporting to stakeholders, offering a clear understanding of financial metrics and trends.Throughout the year, analyse financial performance, investigate anomalies, and resolve emerging issues.Evaluate the impact of operational variances, policy changes, and reporting requirements on financial results.Perform reconciliation and variance analysis against prior plans and periods.Highlight and communicate key business performance risks, concerns and opportunities to the management team.Conduct in-depth analyses to identify critical factors influencing business performance.Advise on understanding cost drivers within the organisation, contributing to a comprehensive understanding of cost structures.Drive cost control initiatives, optimising operational efficiency while maintaining financial sustainability.
Consolidated Forecasting and Budgeting:
Develop and maintain a comprehensive implementation plan for the forecasting and budgeting process at Kumba.Continuously monitor progress, identify issues, and proactively resolve challenges to ensure timely delivery.Process Monitoring and Adaptation:Review and refine the forecasting and budgeting process as needed.Communicate any changes or updates to relevant stakeholders to ensure alignment and transparency.Engage with key stakeholders across the business to gather input and insights that inform budgetary decision making.Facilitate discussions to ensure a shared understanding of Kumba’s financial outlook and strategic priorities.Build and maintain strong working relationships with key business contacts to support effective collaboration and information sharing.Integrate operational insights from various departments to enhance forecast accuracy.Utilise advanced financial analysis techniques to draw insights and trends from operational and financial data.Identify and clearly articulate key judgment areas in monthly results, embedding necessary adjustments into forecasts and budgets in line with accounting standards.Conduct sensitivity and scenario analyses to evaluate the impact of different assumptions.Assess and report on risks and opportunities that may influence financial outcomes.Prepare insightful forecasting and business planning presentations for internal and Group reporting.Support the development of ad-hoc presentations as required by leadership.Actively participate in finance and cross-functional business projects, taking the lead where appropriate.Perform business plan flexing and scenario modelling to support strategic decision-making.This role is in Finance (FIN) at a Band 6 level reporting to the Manager Performance Management

Proven expertise gained through 6-8 years of relevant experience in a financial analysis role in a corporate environment.Experience analysing and benchmarking financial/business data, operational efficiencies, and value chains.Working knowledge of financial consolidation systems.Understanding of complex commercial and technical accounting issues.Operational experience in performance reporting, forecasting and budgeting.Operational experience in the mining industry.Awareness of significant technical accounting issues that may impact Kumba, e.g. deferred stripping.Additional Information
