Nature & Purpose of Position Performs duties related to the daily operations of parking enforcement to ensure parking rules and regulatory compliance at Sam Houston State University. Primary Responsibilities Performs entry-level specialist duties. Oversees student workers in the issuance of citations and arrangement of towing vehicles that are a hazard or in flagrant violation of university parking rules and regulations. Provides information and training on Public Safety staff in parking enforcement procedures as well as enforcement equipment maintenance and use. Prepares, sells and issues permits when needed in the Parking and Transportation Office. Assists in interpreting regulations and making decisions regarding parking violations. Patrols parking areas to ensure vehicles are parking according to rules and regulations. Communicates with the public to explain parking rules and regulations. Assists individuals with directions to campus buildings, resources and roadways. Monitors parking and traffic issuers related to compliance and any faulty or absent traffic control devices. Supervises student workers during shift. Aides motorists in need of assistance. Provides transportation to individuals to obtain vehicles that have been towed. Provides assistance at garage(s) with automated equipment. Prepares written reports as necessary. Provides written and verbal testimony in administrative hearings. Performs other related duties as assigned. Other Specifications Requires the use of standard equipment common to most offices including computers. Must be accurate in business mathematics, spelling, grammar, and punctuation. Must communicate effectively in English, both orally and in writing. Maintains all required certifications and attends on-going training. Must be able to perform a variety of tasks, often changing quickly from one task to another without loss of efficiency or composure.
Must be familiar with or have the ability to learn how to use handheld devices using Windows Mobile OS and Bluetooth technology. Position requires knowledge of or ability to use Microsoft Windows based desktop.
Position requires driving and operating a university vehicle, therefore, a valid Texas driver license and driving record acceptable to the University’s insurance carrier is required.
During emergencies, operational failures, and peak use periods, employee may be called in when off shift to work an extended shift. Special procedures sometimes require extended hours.
