Kumba Iron Ore
We produce high-grade iron ore, the key component in steel widely used in construction and manufacturing across the world. Our activities include all aspects – exploration; mining; processing and blending; shipping; marketing and selling. In South Africa, we have mining operations in the Northern Cape province, as well as a head office in Gauteng, and a port operation in Saldanha Bay, Western Cape.
Job DescriptionAs Specialist Communication you will provide services as required and your responsibilities will include but not limited to:
Collect and summarise the specific risks within the working area and implement plans/systems to avoid these risks.Manage Safety and Health systems within the work area.Performance and DeliveryInternal CommunicationPlan the strategy and ensure establishment and maintenance.Plan and maintain effective and timely communication with mine employees to share important information and prevent potential misunderstandings.Ensure clear feedback is given based on networking, research, and alignment with Kumba’s values and policies.Conduct regular audits to determine the effectiveness of communication channels.Manage electronic internal communication platforms and instruments.External CommunicationVerify that external communication follows the directive of the Corporate Office to ensure compliance.Promote effective liaison with the external media to protect, enhance and maintain the corporate profile.Verify media articles and evaluate photos before publishing to ensure authenticity and relevancy.Profiling and BrandingEnsure that Kumba's branding and profiling are aligned with Corporate Office directives and that Anglo standards and requirements are followed to ensure compliance.Maintain branding integrity by efficiently managing all events to enhance the profile of the company and its mines.Monitor how visitors are received, according to prescribed guidelines, to ensure uniformity.Manage internal and external signage to ensure Kumba policies and procedures compliance.Project ManagementMonitor project progress to determine if projects are on track according to project plans and if any deviations are addressed professionally.Ensure projects implemented comply with specifications, quality, and SHE standards and are within budget and time limits to satisfy project requirements.Review all projects to ensure that end-user needs are met, standards are maintained, and initiatives presented are achieved.Stakeholder Relationship ManagementProvide technical expert advice and moral support to the team members to contribute to the successful completion of projects.Sustainability and SocialDeliver the sustainability activities relevant to the discipline as set out in the Life of Asset Plan to improve sustainability performance over time.People and TeamSupport the development of and ultimately implement a purpose-led, high-performing culture within the teams that is aligned with company values, inclusive, and promotes diversity.Implement management processes for employee and contractor management within the work area.Support the growth of team members to help them succeed and feel valued.ComplianceManage the teams' compliance within the work area with external (legislative, regulatory, permitting) local requirements as a minimum level of site performance.Adhere to Anglo American compliance requirements and ensure teams' compliance within the work area.This role is in Corporate Affairs (CA) at a Band 6 level reporting to the Manager Corporate Affairs.
QualificationsRelevant Bachelor’s degree in Communication /Journalism or equivalent on NQF7SA Drivers LicenceTechnical Knowledge
6-8 years of operational experience in corporate affairs in an operational environment.Understanding communication/journalism principles, methodologies, and best practices.Understanding communication strategies, techniques, models, and theories relevant to organisational change.Knowledge of organisational behaviour, dynamics, and culture.Awareness of strategic planning processes and business operations.Familiarity with project management tools and practices to support change initiatives.Additional InformationWhat we offer
