The Specialist – Accounts Payable is responsible for ensuring the accurate and timely processing of accounts payable transactions. This includes reviewing, entering, and reconciling invoices, processing employee expense reports, preparing electronic payments, and maintaining vendor documentation. The role also involves monitoring accounts for timely payments, resolving invoice discrepancies, and performing related administrative tasks, all in compliance with Habitat for Humanity International policies.
Essential Responsibilities:
The Specialist will:
• Review and verify invoices and check requests for proper accounting and compliance.
• Enter invoices into the accounting system and set them up for payment.
• Process invoices from the purchase order system.
• Handle employee expense reports and prepare electronic transfers and payments.
• Monitor accounts to ensure timely payment.
• File and maintain vendor backup documentation.
• Perform additional administrative tasks, such as sorting mail and supporting other departmental activities, as assigned.
Cross-Functional Capabilities:
The Specialist collaborates with employees across divisions to achieve Habitat for Humanity International’s mission and strategic goals. Cross-functional responsibilities may include strategic planning, program implementation, communication and branding, monitoring and evaluation, and compliance and risk management.
Minimum Requirements:
• Associate degree in a related field or equivalent combination of education and work experience.
• Minimum of 2 years of accounts payable experience (or 4 years if formal education requirements are not fully met).
• Proficiency in Excel, Word, Outlook, Internet research, banking systems, and 10-key by touch.
• Working knowledge of accounting software or ERP systems.
• Strong work ethic, professionalism, and attention to detail.
• Well-organized, self-starter, and able to work independently and collaboratively in a fast-paced environment.
• Effective verbal and written communication skills.
• Ability to interact professionally with employees and vendors.
• Strict adherence to confidentiality.
Preferred Qualifications:
• Knowledge of 1099 vendors, contracts, sales and use taxes, and escheatment processes.

The actual salary offered for this role will be based on a variety of factors, including location, internal equity and the candidate’s qualifications and professional experience. HFHI offers a competitive, comprehensive benefits package that varies by country and typically includes vacation leave, sick leave, personal days, health insurance options, retirement plan contributions and life insurance. For work locations in the US, the hiring range for this position is $20.31/hr. - $23.89/hr.
Work Setting and Scope:
This position is based in Americus, GA in a typical office environment with minimal physical requirements and limited travel expectations. The Specialist operates in a global context, supporting HFHI entities worldwide, and does not have direct fiscal responsibilities such as budgeting or revenue generation.
