Special Inspector
Job Title: Special InspectorJob Description

We are seeking a dedicated Special Inspector with expertise in non-destructive testing, ultrasonic testing, and welding experience for a project in the Portland area. The role involves performing field testing, observation, and inspection of construction materials such as soils, aggregates, concrete, asphalt, and steel. The inspector will communicate with the project manager, engineering technicians, client representatives, and contractors regarding site requirements and testing results. Responsibilities also include transporting material samples for further analysis, maintaining equipment, and adhering to strict safety standards.

ResponsibilitiesPerform testing on materials including reinforced concrete, structural steel, and welding inspection.Inspect and review construction sites and materials for compliance with life and safety requirements.Coordinate and interact with contractors in the field.Write Daily Field Reports documenting work performed and indicating compliance or non-compliance with contract documents.Coordinate with the department manager about the progress of projects.Ability to lift up to 50lbs to transport material samples and move a nuclear densometer.Carry a nuclear densometer (25lbs) short distances.
Essential SkillsMinimum of 2 years of experience in inspection, non-destructive testing, and structural steel.Certified Welding Inspector (CWI) certification.ASNT Level II Ultrasonic Testing certification preferred.Experience with laptop computers and proficiency in Microsoft Word and Excel.
Additional Skills & QualificationsACI certification in one or more areas such as Concrete Field Testing Technician Grade I or Concrete Strength Testing Technician.Certified in radiation safety and Nuclear Density Gauge operation.Valid driver's license with an acceptable violation history.ICC certification in categories like Reinforced Concrete, Structural Masonry, or Structural Steel – Welding.Other materials-related certifications are considered if deemed appropriate.
Work Environment

The role primarily involves fieldwork, with 90% of the time spent in the field. The inspector will travel in a company vehicle to various sites around the greater Portland area. A company vehicle is provided, and the work environment emphasizes safety and compliance with industry standards.

This is a Contract to Hire position based out of Portland, Oregon.

Pay and Benefits

The pay range for this position is $30.00 - $45.00/hr.
