Special Assistant
Summary This position is located in the Department of Health & Human Services (HHS), Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS), Office of Communications, Front Office. As a Special Assistant, GS-0301-13, you will work closely with the Director and Deputy Director as a Special Assistant, supporting the entire range of activities for the OC Front Office. Responsibilities Actively participates with the Director and Deputy Director and OC senior staff in the review and assessment of communications-related programs. Assists in agency-wide communications planning, coordination, and clearances. Prepares materials, presentations, reports, briefing notes, and talking points for the Director/Deputy Director. Plans, coordinates, and conducts special assignments, and projects. Provides advice and counsel to the Director and Deputy Director on personnel issues including awards, selection criteria, and developing position descriptions. In order to qualify for the GS-13 grade level, you must meet the following: You must demonstrate in your resume at least one year (52 weeks) of qualifying specialized experience equivalent to the GS-12 grade level in the Federal government, obtained in either the private or public sector, to include: (1) Collaborating with the senior management or senior officials to complete projects; (2) Making recommendations to senior management or key stakeholders; AND (3) Preparing a variety of technical and non-technical documents for use by internal and external audiences. Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community, student, social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience. Time-in-Grade: To be eligible, current Federal employees must have served at least 52 weeks (one year) at the next lower grade level from the position/grade level(s) to which they are applying.
