Spare Crosswalk Guard - Eligibility List
Halifax Regional Municipality is inviting applications for the development of an eligibility list to support Spare Crosswalk Guards for all three (3) geographic locations (Dartmouth & Eastern Passage, Halifax & Fairview, Clayton Park, Bedford & Sackville) in Community Standards & Compliance, Community Safety. This consideration for hire list will be in effect from April 3, 2025, until October 3, 2025.

Crosswalk Guards are responsible for providing a safe and secure crosswalk for elementary children at designated school crosswalks in HRM.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:Safely escort elementary school children across busy crosswalks throughout HRMEnforce all policies and procedures in the operation of the crosswalkAbides by all laws dealing with pedestrian traffic at the crosswalkReports any problems or safety concerns arising at the assigned crosswalk to the Supervisor or Program Manager.QUALIFICATIONS:
Technical / Job Specific Knowledge and Abilities:Ability to stand or walk 2 - 3 ½ hours a day and be exposed to all weather conditionsAbility to maintain control under pressureAbility to work with minimum supervisionPossess adequate vision and hearing.Security Clearance Requirements: Applicants may be required to complete an employment security screening check.

Please note – Testing may be conducted as a component of the selection process to assess technical and job specific knowledge. Candidates who are selected for testing, may be tested in a group setting, scheduled at the employer’s discretion.

WORK STATUS: Casual, Part-Time

HOURS OF WORK: The current daily scheduled hours for this position are Monday through Friday; 2 – 3.5 hours per day. Spare hours vary on need and crosswalk location.

SALARY: The hourly rate for this position is $17.75.

WORK LOCATION: Various locations throughout HRM.
