Job Description

The Sommelier is responsible for curating and managing the restaurant’s wine program, including selection, pairing, inventory, and staff education. This role enhances the guest dining experience by offering expert wine recommendations tailored to the menu and individual preferences. The ideal candidate brings deep wine knowledge, excellent hospitality skills, and a passion for creating memorable culinary experiences. This position reoprts to the Restaurant Manager.

Essential Job Functions

Work with Restaurant or General Manager once a week to conduct wine tasting during pre-servicePlay integral role in the hiring and training of all new staff for the restaurantAssist in the daily maintenance including organization, restocking, wine cellar, wine fridge, wine wall, to ensure it is current, clean and organizedEnsure all wine lists are always currentConstantly further your wine knowledgeAssist in the daily maintenance including organization, restocking, wine cellar, wine fridge, wine wall, etc.Assist in the planning, organization and execution of all special wine events and promotionsBenchmark and provide innovation on product, training, organization and systems as they relate to not only wine service but the day-to-day operation of the restaurantConduct monthly inventory working closely with wine director and accounting to resolve any inconsistencies with accounting in a timely mannerComplete tasks and projects delegated by your supervisor and assist other departments as business volumes and staff levels demandAssist in emergency and security procedures as directed by management and the established emergency planComply with all policies and procedures of Aspen OneOther Duties as assigned

Qualifications

Education and Experience Requirements

College preferred or hotel/restaurant training3 years in a fine dining establishmentSuccessful completion of advanced level of The Court of Master Sommeliers preferred

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities

Proficient knowledge in wineKnowledge of food and cooking methodsKnowledge of F&B finance models as they relate to pricing, inventory COGS, analysis and problem solvingProficient knowledge in Microsoft Office SuiteProficient written and verbal communication skills English skills, spanish a plusKnowledge of food handling, safety and other restaurant guidelinesExcellent time management skillsAbility to work under stressful circumstancesComfortable presenting and speaking in public to large groupsAbility to work independently with minimal supervision, completing work at a high standardAbility to be a team player, working collaboratively with othersAbility to develop strong working relationship with those contacted in the course of work

Additional Information

Work Environment and Physical Demands 

Ability to reach, crouch, kneel, smell, taste, stand, walk or be on your feet for extended periods time.Regularly work in wet, hot and humid conditions for extended periods of time and may be required to walk on slippery and uneven surfaces.Must be able to constantly lift, push or pull up to 50 lbs. individually or with assistance
