Role Overview

The Solution Architect operates within the Corporate Functions global Architecture function. The function provides strategic and design leadership to shape and govern technology solutions enabling business transformation across the group, including key strategic technology initiatives to simplify the application estate and target operating model rollout. This role bridges the gap between Technology and core Corporate Functions in the group including Operations, Finance, Surveillance and Risk, ensuring that solutions are scalable, secure, and aligned with long-term organisational goals. This role will see the architect involved in many of the Group’s top priority technology initiatives including high profile Board, Regulator and C-level driven priorities.

Role Responsibilities

Work with the global Solution Architect for Corporate Functions on all priority initiatives

Initial priorities to include the multi year programme to consolidate Corporate Functions applications, and establish a modern, product oriented, target operating model within technology

Understand business drivers and business capabilities (future and current state), and helping to determine corresponding system designs to drive the organisation's targeted business outcomes. 

Contribute and develop the architecture for a broad scope of projects, working closely with delivery teams that manage and design architecture for a single project or initiative.  

Contribute to the system solutions of large, strategic, complex system development projects involving multiple platforms, distributed processing, multi-tier, and web-based applications. 

Monitor the current-state solution portfolio to identify deficiencies caused by aging technologies used by the application, or misalignment with business requirements.  

Review and ensure architectural designs are consistent, maintainable, flexible, and in line with the strategic direction of the business.  

Influence the adoption and use of new techniques and technical practices and advocates continuous improvement.  

Prototype and prove potential technology solutions with application teams to ensure consistent and effective implementations. 

Act as a liaison between business functions and the technology organization to enable communication of strategic direction and initiatives. 

Ensure that solutions adhere to enterprise risk, security, and compliance requirements through proactive design and governance.

Experience / Competences

Minimum of 8 years of experience in engineering lead/architecture related role, preferably in the finance sector.

Bachelor's degree in computer science, system analysis or other technical subject, or equivalent experience.

Experience in an IT solution development discipline, such as technical architecture, network management, application development, middleware, database management or operations.

Good understanding of strategic and new and emerging technology trends, and the practical application of existing, new and emerging technologies, including AIML, Cloud experience in AWS. Formal certifications (e.g., AWS Certified Solutions Architect) are a plus.

Good analytical and technical skills, ability to use unified model language (UML) to deliver design artifact.

Understanding of agile methods and processes, and capability of working with agile project teams.

Experience contributing to architecture governance, including participation in architecture review boards and the definition of reusable patterns and reference architectures.

Strong stakeholder engagement and influencing skills, with the ability to communicate complex technical concepts to both technical and non-technical audiences.

Demonstrated ability to mentor and guide engineering teams, promoting best practices in architecture and design.
